What to do about North Korea.

For one thing, Trump has made it clear that we are prepared to us massive force. China has forces on the border and probably does not want to be drawn into a war with the US. Trump has also talked about sanctions against China.

VIA THE MOTHER OF ALL TWEETS! (note the all caps!)

Shortages of essential items such as fuel for cars, and the special fuel required for N Korea's missiles is much more effective a strategy per China's restrictions, than words from the lips of Trump. You really believe that Kim is worried by Trump's huffing, and puffing. Even The Secretary of State referred to Trump as a moron when responding to Trumps latest tweets on North Korea.

China's change in policy, to begin restricting trade with North Korea, appears to be in part the result of Trump's threats to sanction China. https://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-threatens-china-over-north-korea-sanctions-1505236628
Kim may not fear huffing and puffing, but if he is not a total imbecile he knows that Trump has the power to destroy his country. If you think it is only huffing, you are probably wrong.

According to the ABC news documentary,
the locals also blame the US for military exercises in the area to destabilise the area.

Stability is not the best policy as it just gives NoKorea time to develop better bombs and missles. The is the problem with past "diplomacy". We need to bring the issue to a head and stop NK from going further. There can be no success in prohibiting nuclear weapons or proliferation if the world is not willing to enforce prohibitions.

The joint exercises with South Korean forces is routine, reflecting the alliance between the USA, and South Korea...and as a reminder to Kim that effective deterrence needs to be demonstrated by the USA, and South Korea with more than words. American forces have been stationed in South Korea since the Korean War ended.

No one, anywhere has ever imagined that North Korea would be threatened with invasion...

....for there is nothing in North Korea that anyone wants.

I really hope that you are right and that what Trump and Tillerson are doing is all a well thought out plan. But given the evidence of how Trump appears to shoot off his mouth without thinking, it is difficult for me to believe there is any actual strategy behind it. But again, I hope I am wrong and you are right. I do not want to be proven right by a hydrogen bomb landing in U.S. territory.

Experts agree it's unlikely that N Korea actually has the hydrogen bomb, just ordinary nukes (yeah, "just").

Though it would be nice if Trump and Tillerson are doing a tactical tango, truly.

Trump doesn't know how to negotiate anything. Even now, with the Free Trade talks going on between Mexico, the US, and Canada, Trump has been doing nothing but bullying and threatening his way through them. And that's what he's doing with North Korea... bullying and threatening. The problem with that is that Kim Jong-un is just as good at bullying and threatening. There are two egomaniacs trying to out-bully and out-threaten each other, and neither is likely to back down.

To borrow a phrase from Teal'c, things will not calm down. They will, in fact, "calm up".

By his record, Trump's approach to negotiating is to bluster and eventually pay more than he needed to. That doesn't give hope in this instance.

According to this ABC news documentary,
China has no power or any control on North Korea. China is powerless ...

I watched, and I didn't find any of what you said.

China is hardly powerless; they can cut off N Morea's fuel and more. They just have to be cautious not to do too much and cause the dynasty in N Korea to collapse.

Mr Trump was elected to shake things up. I agree with your statement whole heartedly. China must gingerly clean up his mess.

You have to put yourself in China's shoe to find it.
There are a lot of tensions across China/North Korea's border.

LOL

Given there were no statements from any Chinese officials in the video, there's nothing to go on. The best you can say is that a few Chinese citizens feel powerless.

China has a very simple power it could exercise to fix the issues with N Korea: it could just send five or ten million very loyal Chinese across the bridges and proceed to quietly absorb the place as it's done s often in its history to neighbors.

LOL to you.
Mongolia invaded the whole of China but because of the high population, China sort of absorb Mongolia

You don't like Trump's style, but it is working.

Working? Working how? Exchanging insults with Kim Jung Un? Escalating a volatile situation by taking it personal is working it, for sure, but it isn't making it work. As always with POTUS, it is whatever works for him, making Donald feel adequate, superior, macho in the moment. When POTUS insults Kim, it is different from insults hurled at Western leaders on a daily basis. North Korea is a Cult of Personality. One Personality, the Beloved Leader. 24M people basically worshiping this kid, and Donald has to piss in his face. JHFGDC! When one is responsible for the safety and welfare of 325M Americans, he has to, or should, at least, think about the other 324,999,999 of us when he randomly spouts threats and insults at world leaders. Not to mention the potential impact on South Korea and Japan. Cutting Rex Tillerson off for trying to open a meaningful diaglogue with the NK regime is probably the most stupid and irresponsible thing he could possibly do. The Sec'y of State now has no credibility. He can't negotiate with other countries nor put forth the President's foreign policy, because neither Rex nor anyone else can discern what that might be. When he tries to fill the void, and do his job anyway, POTUS tweets...TWEETS!...he's wasting his time. DON'T LIKE HIS STYLE? The guy has no style, no consistency and apparently no fucking clue as to the impact of his words and actions. How to handle North Korea? It starts at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. One would ask POTUS to shut the fuck up, FILTER, give Gen. Kelly his phone to hide and let people do their jobs. This is NOT working.

At last count, Trump has about 40 million followers. My guess is that a small portion of those are supporters. The rest are following just to keep track of what damage he's doing and what mischief he's up to so they can let the rest of the world know.

The media reports about North Korea are so .... "un educational" because,
i learn so much about North Korea from this video alone and know so little from the media:

We must try diplomacy, and our shameful hot headed President should watch what he says. The President of North Korea is an idiot, but an intelligent one who will make good on his threats.

So you believe we should kick the can down the road and let him continue developing his bombs, missiles and biological weapons?

So you believe we should kick the can down the road and let him continue developing his bombs, missiles and biological weapons?

Oh no, by all means we should do everything possible to escalate the situation, and put South Korea and Japan in grave danger.

Kicking the can down the road with wisdom and diplomacy, is a hell of a lot better than making threats that will worsen the situation. We must be prepared should North Korea act foolishly, but we must take the moral high ground and not be the foolish ones. If you think that making sharp threats against North Korea will make them "tremble with fear" you are thinking foolishly.
