What to do about North Korea.

Kim has expressly and publicly said many times that he will destroy the US, and this has been going on for years.

Mine's bigger than yours, is a reflection of Kim's sense of inadequacy.

Sabre rattling has a well established habit of stroking ones ego.

We'll soon see who blinks first.

The Kim regimes have been telling the North Korean people since the Korean war that the United States is warmongering nation that is out to destroy them and the North Korean Army, the Kim's partner in all things, is the only thing keeping them safe.

The economic philosophy is also one of not just economic independence but economic self sufficency. It has never been a reality of course with them often dependent on China for resources but they tell their people differently and any shortfalls in food or other resources are explained away with claims the rest of the world is worse off or being caused by the war mongering Americans.

The US's options against the regime are very limited, they are more than willing to suffer through embargos and sanctions all the while blaming the Americans for it. Military actions are also limited as any conflict in the region would do massive harm to our two most important allies in the region, South Korea and Japan.

China has the most influence as they are the main source for what resources they import but it too is limited given the North Korean's self sufficency approach. Also, China has an interest in keeping the Kim's in power as a collapse of their government would create a massive refugee crisis on their border. On the other paw, they fear that South Korea and Japan will develop nuclear arms in response.

The North Korean's have also picked up on a historical lesson that we probably are going to regret providing. Nations that give up their nuclear ambitions are often still overturned after giving up those ambitions, Iraq and Libya being the examples. Whereas those nations that do develop nuclear weapons survive, Israel and Pakistan being examples.

The latter is a guy trying to show what a threat he is, and the former is people practicing to be ready for the threat.

North Korea point of view,
they fear the US & South Korea invading them ... so no difference really.

And the "good" side already have so much nuclear weapons ...

This is a satellite view of the Korean Peninsula at night ...

They have nuclear weapons (Which came from where?), but certainly not much else.

Kim is making the tail wag the dog.

Dogs bite their tails, when they catch them ...

No, they don't --that's just the propaganda line they use to keep their people behaving like sheep. They know good and well that they have nothing worth invading for at all.

Are you saying the US do not have many nuclear weapons ?

"not worth invading for that" is not the point.

He's not saying that at all. He's saying that Korea doesn't have anything worth going to war over. The middle east has oil. That's worth going to war over.

North Korea is well aware that they are not going to attract attention based on the interests of great powers to have access to resources.

In other words, North Korea knows it is no special prize.

It primarily has the capacity to annoy and alarm great powers, so it does, as long as that is profitable for the ruling family and helps to ensure their grip on power. They are the worst of self-serving, petty, cruel tyrants. In the third generation of kleptocracy, the regime is fully divorced from any ideology it might once have taken seriously, and only perpetuates myths that serve its longevity. The trouble comes if they start to believe their own myth, because then they aren't even in it for the money any more, but only to forward a delusion to which they themselves may fall victim. That could be dangerous, given that China keeps missing opportunities to bring them to heel.

Again North Korea point of view,
Military exercises are not threatening to the fat dictator ?
