At work yesterday, we were all talking about names and how they're chosen and who likes their name. It seemed a majority liked their first name and did NOT like their middle name.

There have been threads where we've introduced ourselves and told our first names, but how about this turn of the "getting to know you" thread?

1. Are you named (first, middle) after anyone in particular - relative, family friend, celebrity?

2. What does your name mean, if anything? http://www.behindthename.com/

3. Do you like your name (first, middle)?

4. Do you go by your first or middle name?

This is mine:
1. First name is after an actor my mom liked at the time. Middle name is after a friend of my dad's.
2. First name (Christopher [Chris]) means "bearing Christ."
3. First name: Yes, I like. Middle name: No, not really.
4. First.

i was named after my uncle. my mothers brother.

he died when he was 19.......... before i was born.

my name is not listed in that database you linked to.

i like my name and i like that i have a connection to my uncle because of it,
my mother used to talk about him a lot......
i've seen pictures and he does look like me

i go by my first name but changed a bit

1. First name is from my uncle that died two years before the same day i was born. My mom always says that I look like him (mainly my eyes). I don't have middle name. :(
2. My name (Luis) means nothing interesting. Only related with some kings of France.
3. I like my name because it's some kind of tribute or second opportunity.
4. n/a.

I'm shocked. My PreTTy PeTe and I shares almost the same history. What a wonderful world!

Oh I thought this was a thread about us saying what's in a name of other JUBBERS - I was going to say I wouldn't mind being named NONIMUS  (!) (!)

1. I share my middle name with my grandmother.
2. My first name: Joshua
From the Hebrew name יְהוֹשֻׁעַ (Yehoshu'a) which meant "YAHWEH is salvation".
Joshua was one of the twelve spies sent into Canaan by Moses in the Old
Testament. After Moses died Joshua succeeded him as leader of the Israelites.
The name Jesus is derived from this name.
3. Yes and yes
4. My first name or some derivation thereof.

My first name is not for anyone that I know of. Middle name is my paternal gradfather's first name.

My first name (Zachary) is the anglicanized version of a minor jewis prophet meaning "God Remembers." My middle name is the portuguese form of "Matthew" which is derived from Hebrew meaning "Gift from God."

I like them both fine. People like my first name coz it's got a 'z' and like my middle name coz it's ethnic.

I go by Zac

1. My first name because my mother said she liked it
2. My middle name same thing
3. last name - the usual

1.) My mum liked the name James. Actually, she wanted to call me Jamie, but my dad wouldn't let her.
2.)
English form of the Late Latin Jacomus which was derived from Ιακωβος (Iakobos), the New Testament Greek form of יַעֲקֹב (Ya'aqov) (see JACOB). This is the name of two apostles in the New Testament. The first was Saint James the Greater, the apostle John's brother, who was beheaded by Herod Agrippa in the Book of Acts. The second was James the Lesser, son of Alphaeus. Another James (known as James the Just) is also mentioned in the Bible as being the brother of Jesus. Kings of England and Scotland have borne this name. Other famous bearers include the inventor of the steam engine James Watt, the explorer Captain James Cook, and the novelist and poet James Joyce.
Funny how one of the three famous Jameses listed there is local to me...
3.) Yeah, I like both: James Michael.
4.) James (first)

First name - "From the Gaelic name Niall, which is of disputed origin, possibly meaning "champion" or "cloud". This was the name of a semi-legendary 4th-century Irish king." (This is the name I go by.)

Middle name - "From the Late Latin name Franciscus which meant "Frenchman". Saint Francis of Assisi, the founder of the Franciscan order of friars, was the son of a wealthy merchant who renounced his father's wealth and devoted his life to the poor. Later in his life Francis apparently received the stigmata. Another saint of this name was Saint Francis Xavier, a missionary to eastern Asia. Two other famous bearers were philosopher and scientist Francis Bacon, and explorer and admiral Sir Francis Drake. This name is occasionally used for girls." (In Canada, the feminine is 'Frances')

My 4 older brothers were all named after relatives. When I came along, though, everyone began arguing about how I would be named. Mom came very close to naming me 'Philip', but, with all the arguing, she picked 'Neil'. I think I would have preferred 'Philip'. I've never liked my first name.

1. I am named after my dad....his name is also Paul.
2. I think someone told me that Paul means small..
3. Yeah...but i won't reveal my middle name
4. First

1.) Cory, nope, not named after anyone - my middle name, yes after my dad

2.) My name means nothing!!

Corey, which is NOT my name = From a surname which was possibly either derived from the Old Norse given name Kori (of unknown meaning), or else meant "ravine" in Gaelic.

I've actually heard "Cory" means "helmet." How ironic

3.) Meh, I used to think it was girly and stupid. It's kinda grown on me.

4.) First.

1. I am named after *nothing*. Sheer randomness. I guess my parents liked the names.
2. Daniel: God is my judge.
3. I like my first name, yes. I do like my middle name as well but I dont like the fact that it makes my initials spell a word.
4. My first name, shortened. Everybody calls me Danny.

1. First name - nope, not after anyone in particular.
Middle name - yep, after a member of the Royal Family (they were on a Royal Tour
of Oz when I was born).

2. Meaning of first name - From a surname which originally came from a place name that meant
"broad clearing" in old English.

3. Yeah, they're ok .... prefer shortened version of my first name to the full version,
though.

4. First name.

1. Middle name is the first name of every first born before me, my parents decided to break the tradition with me.

2. Gift from God (haha)
3. I do not like my first name, but my middle and last.

4. Most ppl call me by my last name or some variation of my first.

1. Named after my father.

2. Richard means "Brave Heart" :D

3. Well, I think Richard is boring but I like Rick. I like my middle name. ..|

4. I go by my first name.

1) My older sister named me Jonathan because she thought people would be able to spell it (unlike hers). How wrong she was. Not only that but my dad's name is Johnny (which is what people sometimes call me) and it gets confusing answering the phone. And he cashes in cheques sent to me if they put my name as an initial

2) "Jonathan" means Gift of God.
"Tze" means wise and "Wen" means scholar. Although I was mispronouncing my middle names for about nineteen years, so it probably came out as "stupid prick" or something like that.

3) Yeah, I like my names. Can't imagine being called anything else.

4) Well, I go by my first name most of the time, but obviously not here where I use my first middle name.

1. Are you named (first, middle) after anyone in particular - relative, family friend, celebrity?

2. What does your name mean, if anything?
