  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

what's the best sitcom ever?

Best sitcom of all time is
I Love Lucy

Runners up are
All In The Family
Dick Van Dyke Show
Friends
Alice

I Love Lucy and The Golden Girls ... because I never get tired of watching reruns of either one!

I really only watched friends, and will and grace..

I used to have a friend when i was like 5ish, that loved I love Lucy though..

I can't say I ever watched it though.. I would fall asleep when he would run marathons of it..

I Love Lucy was the first 'sitcom' to be filmed in front of a 'live studio audience'. Desi Arnzz was a man ahead of his time and made the sitcom what it is today.

Yes, sir. That^ is indeed correct.

And it was also the first to be filmed with THREE cameras using FILM - like the kind used in making movies. Up to that time, TV shows were typically recorded with one camera on kinescope for broadcasting. Kinescope recordings didn't last long and as a result you don't see re-runs for any other shows from the early 50s.

The writing, directing, cinematography, archiving, and syndication made possible by Desilu Productions set the standard that is still in use to today.

In the world of sitcoms, Lucy and Desi invented the wheel.

What's a 'grit'?

Grits is a type of maize porridge and a food common in the Southern United States consisting of coarsely ground corn. This is similar to many other thick maize-based porridges from around the world such as polenta. It also has a lesser resemblance to farina, a thinner porridge.

Hominy grits is another term for grits, but explicitly refers to grits made from nixtamalized corn, or hominy.

Thanks, Neil. I'd often wondered about that, but I never got around to looking it up anywhere.

There are three sitcoms that I consistently watch over and over:

I Love Lucy
Golden Girls
Are You Being Served

Of those three, I Love Lucy is my favorite.

Above all the rest: I Love Lucy. Then: Mary Tyler Moore Show, Dick Van Dyke Show, Absolutely Fabulous, Seinfeld, Fawlty Towers, Designing Women, Will and Grace, Cheers, Friends, M*A*S*H and Are You Being Served? (Honorable mention to Last of the Summer Wine, the ultimate non-sitcom, sitcom.)

classic- mary tyler moore show
recent- seinfeld
more recent- arrested development

i love lucy too but my favorite is 'my three son's' the black & white years.

Friends (they have constant reruns in the UK. They're still funny)

Black Books

Is It Legal

(not expecting any non UK people to have heard of the last two)
