What's the point

An American tourist (Floridian?) had his €800k-Hublot wristwatch stolen while strolling around the Gothic Quarter in BCN

Seriously? In BCN? In the touristic area with the narrowest wynds? What.was. he. [STRIKE]thinking[/STRIKE].

But, most importantly, what's the point of wearing that, anywhere..?

Anyway, the fault may rather lie on those tagging a geek object at such prices... anyone can buy whatever they want, and should even be free to parade it without having to regret of complain about the experience...

Seriously it’s probably some tiktoker or YouTuber. It’s all about the bling with them. Real billionaires rarely show off like that and have the money to not be roaming dangerous streets. Don’t they know they could run into belamo in a back alley at any time?

No one runs into belamo's back alley without getting paid for it.

What have billionaires got to do with this.

Billionaires do not go to BCN city, let alone roam the city, much less let themselves drop (I mean outside a car) in that part of the it, no matter Mercer 5*GL, Mandarin... I don't think they would go to hotels at all, not even a 4S, which BCN lost the opportunity of even having had when the regional government decided to keep the only really decent location for their own akelarres, and then the resistupid major tried to stop the tourist Medusa in downtown BCN.
Anyway, I never knew twenteeners still did hiphop boomer stuff like wristwatches  youboomers would have their own villas, or rent, or whatever, in the area, not in a fucking medieval stone hut.

Again: what the point (now question mark) of lying about an object with a definite and controlled identification and appraisal?

Any tourist who has paid attention knows that the most wealthy appearing get the best service/attention. It's only good business to cater to/focus on the biggest purse.

That aside, flaunting and bragging is a big deal to most people. Having one's wealth appear in the news is widespread bragging -- a flaunters dream come true.

In the UK there has been a spate of thefts from footballers and influencers who insta their valuables all the time. I have no sympathy. Keep your extreme valuables under lock and key to prevent theft. And if you need to lock them up they are not worth wasting your money on.

Except for a few businesses closed (ten hotels among them) the pandemic seems to be well over... as if it never existed
