Around here it is more like a hatred of gays. People get beat up and killed just for being openly gay.

I posed the question "Is it a good idea to have rainbow bumper stickers" earlier.

I can understand people who voted its " harmless self expression" because self expression (freedom of speech) is first amendment and "not living in CONSTANT fear".

But personally for me........PERSONAL SAFETY always trumps idealogy.

Meeting heavily closeted/downlow people. Especially ones my age and older.

The homophobias get on my nerves.. I soo wish I could do this to them

So far, the rejection from some family members, and 95% of my friends has been the worst thing about coming out as gay, hands down. Nothing hurts more than having someone you love look at you in disgust.

I'm yet to experience any real homophobia from the general public. Sure, when I was holding hands with the guy I was seeing, some people's stares lingered a little while longer than usual, but I suppose it's just because they're not used to seeing 'something like that'. It didn't really bother me, I was much too preoccupied.

I'm sure if people continually yelled out hurtful comments, then eventually, it would start take its toll. But I would try as hard as I could to stand tall and not change how I acted in public with a partner. I think that's important.

It's much easier to disregard the comments and actions of somebody you don't know. The closer they are to you, the more it hurts.

So... Rejection from family, co-workers or friends

Very well said. (!)
I agree wholeheartly.

I too have expierence very little homophobia by general public.

The fear that someone might hurt my child because we are gay.

Being the center of attention. When we are with people who are new to us or people who don't know us that well, we seem to be a fascination for them. It gets tiresome.

Many of you have heard my voice or know that I set off people's gaydar like no other.

The most painful expierence for me personally was when my best straight male friend, of 15 years, dropped me like a bad habit after I came out to him. I thought for sure he'd already knew of my homosexuality.

Being dropped by my ex best friend hurted PHYSICALLY for MONTHS.

The following for me

1. Being only out to my Mother and the fact that I do believe in a God who I feel in the back of my mind hates my guts for being what I am.

2. Attractive to a lot of hot guys who would never give me the time of day, let alone piss one me if I was on fire

3. Fear of being murdered

4. Always having to play things safe

5. People wondering why I don't have a girlfriend? "Hey morons, put two and two together"

6. AIDS and other types of STDS

The worst thing about being gay is when you realize you are not white and twink-like.

Yeah the "chicken" always has more fun.

(for any younger jub members who might not know what "chicken" means....it means the same thing as "twink".......it's just an older term)

Confessions of poll whore. I started seven polls in the last FOUR days. (3 out of the seven .......I started within the last 16 hours)

](*,)

I just HAD to take a shot at myself.........I would never want some mean NASTY jub (ber) to take a low blow shot at me.:grrr:

My polls question vary greatly........but they are mostly about gay men issues.

<---------hates JUB (bers) with those NASTY comment.

:grrr::grrr::grrr::grrr::grrr::grrr::grrr::grrr::grrr::grrr::grrr:

My next poll question (NOT)

How much do you hate when a fellow jub member leaves a nasty comment

1) Very much

2) average

3) Dont bother in one way or another.

When I was about 19 it was the 8 or so years I spent hating myself and wishing I didn't have to live anymore. Now that I'm happy again it's the fact that so many people still see us as somehow different, disgusting, and undeserving of the same respect that the rest of humanity receives. But I can't do much about that at this very moment so I don't let it bother me too much.

(((esquire)))......Growing up I was extremely comfortable with my homosexuality........I only had problems AFTER my best straight male friend dumped me after I came out to him.( I was aged 30 ):grrr:

I remember you posting that before and I think it sucks but in the end you don't deserve shitty a friend like that anyway. (*8*)

People like you don't help progress much.

The following for me

1. Being only out to my Mother and the fact that I do believe in a God who I feel in the back of my mind hates my guts for being what I am.....

6. AIDS and other types of STDS....

Dude, I find your idea of god to be ludicrous, but I'll ask you a quick theological question and hope that it helps. If your god made you, knew every detail of what you were going to be and do in life, why would he make you gay if he hates us? Why would he have made gay people in the first place, creator of all life, alpha and omega that he is? It makes no sense. So either the bible is not his devinely inspired word, or your god is an evil vindictive peice of shit and is in no way worthy of your reverance.

And by the way, straight people get HIV and other STDs too. That aint the exclusive territory of fags, in spite of what the fuckin' knuckle-draggers say.

for me: dealing with white gay guys and the men who love them.

Um.....what? That apears to be a broad sweeping statement implying that all white guys are racist.
