  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

What's with the porn avatars?

Well it would be much much easier to have a version of the board where you log in and you simply see no graphics than to try to add this to the list of things that mods moderate. As it stands right now there are multiple right answers to the way mods do things which can cause some confusion.

I think at one point JD & Seth were working on a plain jane version of the board that would have no images but I don't know what ever happened to that idea.

(Uploaded "plain jane" screen cap available for a limited time only. ;))

I don't suppose the code allows for two avatars, one for adult-content-designated areas, and one for not-so-designated?

Well I have never seen this so-called label of "safe zone", but that could just be me on the main forum page glancing over to the "Broke Straight Boys" banner with OMG pornographic pictures.

The board tittles don't necessarily mean that its free from naked men or sex, just that its free from posting pornographic material, those that do post pornographic requests, images, stories and so on are quickly moved along to the right topics, and I think the mods do a fantastic job of that, I personally believe it is more to keep the individual topic area's on topic rather than protecting people from sexual images, might be my opinion but the big banner saying “Blake Mansion” with an image of a cock through the middle isn’t saying “this is a safe zone”

I enjoy looking at the avatars and signatures, porn or not, and moderating them would be a shame and could actually create problems as its not always clear what can be seen as pornographic images or artistic nudes. Sex itself can be depicted artistically, where do you draw the line and even if you are sure yourself where the line is, other people won’t be, what with individual opinions being what they are. If we do go down the line of removing those that can be seen as pornographic the upset and bickering could cause a ban on avatars and sigs all together. Either way it would be a great loss to Jub as I could see many people leaving the site.

I don’t see why everyone is getting so heated, I can feel the tension in each individual post, cant everyone just listen to what each other has to say, no one person is right, everyone has a valid opinion that is no less or more important than another’s.

Oh and I would class mine as being artistic even though it is from a pornographic image, mainly because it is trying to promote safe sex.

Jesus wept, Kulindahr, after 16,000 mind-numbing posts proselytizing about the thrills of gun ownership, you'd think you'd have noticed before now that there are naked guys on this site. It is easy enough for you to spout libertarian dogma when it supports the issues you are wanking off to, but when it comes to freedom of expression with something as harmless as an avatar for a bb on a porn site, you get all prissy and preachy.

I think the issue has nothing to do with you seeing cocks in avatars. I think it has become purely an exercise in bending something to your will.

For the love of mike, go invest the time finding a site that doesn't offend your delicate sensibilities and give everyone else a much deserved rest.

You twisted that and you know it.

I'm getting really tired of replying to posts that display either evidence of not reading or of deliberately trying to provoke by twisting things. So please, talk directly and to what has been said.

then stop replying to them, as long as you feel the need to complain, I will feel the need to respond.

isn't porn, a film with people having what???????------SEX!

trust me, I AM reading the silly posts your making, why else would I respond?

wow little old me twisting words, and provoking crabby people... god isn't JUB a great place :D :D :D :D :D
there that was very direct, and it was about what has been said--

your turn!

well said! but unfortunately, then we couldnt have all this fun twisting and provoking...

Ok...first of all I am a little confused! This whole site is loaded with porn so who cares it some of the avatars...mine included...have porn in them. second, when I was setting up my JUB account, the avatar that I have was one provided BY JUB...lol...so like the porn, love it!

I wish JD or Seth would post in here. If they would set everything straight, than Kul would have nothing else to say. We all know the policies won't change. Kul knows very well that he has the right to block all pornographic pictures, yet he keeps complaining it should be blocked by the mods and admins so all us other people, who dont give a shit, don't have to see it.

When there is an option to block avatars in your personal settings, you can access porn directly in one step from any page, and no underage persons are supposed to be on this site, I don't see why anyone should complain. I myself would leave JUB if such a ban on pornographic avatars was established. I enjoy seeing what others deem as "hot." I admit I have a few adblocked with firefox because I thought they were gross, but in no way would I ever think I had the right to ask them to remove their avatar because I deemed it offensive. I myself think Kulindahr's "Gun Owners of America" avatar is offensive. Should he have to remove it?

Okay, to test this out, I just went into My Settings, Edit Options, and I clicked two little boxes to remove signatures and avatars. Then I came back here, and guess what? No signatures, and no avatars. Wow, it works.

So why is this still an issue? :-)

There, now they're back again. Hey, I couldn't help it...fuzzy64's avatar is so nice to look at. :D

There's a porn side to this site, and a forum side.
Most of us in the forums aren't here for the porn. In forums, an avatar is meant to express who you are, in some fashion.

So what's with the porn avatars? Are people trying to say, "Look, I'm a total dick?" "See me, just another asshole?"

We're not supposed to post porn in the forums, and everyone is supposed to know that. Why, then, do some get around that by putting porn in their avatars? Is it defiance, just rudeness, or what?

People can put whatever they want in their avatars, just like you do with a Gun one and siggie. This is Americ remember?[-X

Live and let live.............

I notice that the posts made overnight are still ignoring the actual question here, making things personal, etc.

The only item of actual input was about JD or Seth stopping in -- I was thinking last night about PMing them, about the time I fell asleep with a computer on my lap.

nobody is ignoring the actual question here, there wasnt even an ACTUAL question to begin with, YOU made a statement, that YOU were offended by porn avatars, that's what this thread that YOU started is about, YOU not liking porn avatars...

in YOUR initial thread, you basically called anyone who had a porn avatar a dick or an asshole---it's what your implying----THAT is what is personal, a step that YOU took first..

every reply you post, still states the same argument, even after countless people told you how to turn them off, so you wouldnt get offended by them...yet your still stomping your feet in the corner.

I am still puzzled that you have as many posts to your name, and yet NOW your offended, why is that? THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN HERE--- yet it takes you 16,000 posts to complain about it!!!!!

it is a very silly silly argument to be having in the first place!

I changed my Avatar for ya, so what are your views on a penis gun?

Fuzzy, I jusr re-read my original post, and not a single thing you just said about it is true.

As for turning them off, only one (count 'em, 1) person has told me how to turn them off, and that was springboksfan. It works except I have to do it again every time someone changes an avatar.

What do I think about "penis pistols"? They're hilarious, but unless you support a double standard, they don't belong in non-porn forums.

Now if they actually work...

* ponders jello shots on Thursday nights *

I constantly forget that option is there! Thank you for the reminder.

Considering the main page of the site is 95% porn, I'd say that would be a pretty good indication that JustUsBoys is a porn site. I think your argument about banning porn avatars or banners or pics in so-called "non-porn discussion" would be completely valid if JUB was not a site centered around adult-interest topics and material.

Given the fact that most (if not all) of the advertising and affiliate links on here redirect to gay porn websites, I think it's safe to say the owners of the site wanted to create a place where gay men could come to celebrate sex and naked men, and not be made to feel like they have to remove any potential offensive material while participating in discussions here.

The first thing I read when signing up was "You Must Be Over 18 Years Of Age - No Exceptions!" That's usually the first indication that I have just entered Porn-O-Land. ;)
