What's with the porn avatars?

The only thing that irritates me about any of it, is if some one puts their own dick/ass in their avatar/sig. If I really wanted to see it, I'd ask.

So it's okay for others to express themselves with certain avatars only when you ask them to do so?

So you don't believe in the right of people to own their own lives?

C'mon..........it's the same principle for 'porn' avatars isn't it? I don't think the rest of the world needs to be lectured by a gun-toting spinster, but thank you for your thoughts on the matter anyway.

>>>I don't think posting your dick or ass is much of an expression, though.

It's an avatar. It's like a bumper sticker - it's exactly what you want to make it. Some choose to express their political beliefs, some want to show the world some art, and others don't want to say anything more profound than "I like dicks". I don't know about you, but I'd like to think I'm a fairly complex person, and thus can't be summed up in any way, shape, or form by a 120 X 120 pixel picture. Thus the cartoon gargoyle playing video games. :) If someone decides to think that means I'm not a serious person, or that I'm a video game addict, or even that I'm a gargoyle...hell, I can't stop 'em.

I don't have any problem with porn avatars. We're all here to contribute something, and we're all different. I'm ethereal and mysterious, like the jellyfish in my avatar.

I agree, and I hope I'm not one summed up like that either. But, I think it comes to that when some one posts a picture of their naughty bits that will be viewable every time they post. It just seems they want people to see their parts because they want them to be acknowledged and are probably looking for compliments on it.

not that I would sum up some one over it. I am just indifferent when it comes to it. It doesn't bother me as much as it may seem, because I just bock it all anyway.

we have personal galleries and we have adult areas

i use semi nude pix but not the naughty bits

only as a joke sometimes and only for a few hours now and again

thats a personal issue for me... we all have various levels of modesty and we draw the line in different places

You do have to admit that the idea of finding sex to be more offensive than violence is a bit bizarre. And disturbing.

And even if pornographic avatars weren't allowed, you'd still see things like this:

(Those are on my screen as I'm typing this post)

That you equate Gun Owners of America with violence is quite disturbing -- it shows a total lack of understanding, and a serious degree of ignorance.

I don't see things like that at all. If I wanted to see that crap, I'd go to the porn side of the board. Forums should be forums, and porn should be porn.

A gun isn't a life or am I missing something here?

Yes, a gun is a life -- it's for saving them. Guns do that all the time, probably more often than they take lives. They stop crime far more often that they take lives, by an immense ratio.

As the Pink Pistols put it, "Armed gays don't get bashed". Neither do armed store owners, home owners, etc.

Guns are for self-defense. To want to do away with them is to say that no one's self is worth defending.

I agree.

If you really don't want to see porn avatars just ignore all the people that have them and then you wont have to see them.

Ah.
So because other people are posting things that bug me, I should be immature?

I come here for the forums, and so do a lot of people. If we came here for porn, we'd go to the porn sections. Using "ignore" butchers the forum conversations.

oh goodie...another thread complaining about porn! god I have never seen so many complainers about porn---this is--as the banner on the site says...:

JUST US BOYS.COM
Entertainment for Gay Men

porn is entertainment for gay men--- if someone wants to put a cock shot in thier avatar, who cares? if someone wants to have a tongue licking a cock in their avatar, who cares?

Ive said this before, FIND SOMETING WORTHWILE AND MEANINGFULL TO COMPLAIN ABOUT....

this is a porn site, that has a forum attached to it, if your offended by porn, then go to disneyland.com and find enjoyment there..

Chicken is for dinner.
Therefore all dinner must be chicken.

That's your argument -- porn is entertainment for gay men; therefore all entertainment for gay men has to be porn.

This is a site that has porn; it is not a porn site -- you quoted what JUB is, and it doesn't say, "A Porn Site".

I'm merely suggesting that porn be where there's supposed to be porn, and not everywhere.

There are more than a few gay men who don't enjoy porn, and more than that who want porn when they want it, they don't want it shoved in their faces.

And when Disneyland has a forum for gay men with as many posters as JUB does, I'll gladly switch.

I see avatars as expressions, not a personal imposition on me of porn nor political beiefs of any kind. I think some avatars here are cool and I think others are just dull, and if avatars were not used in such variance visiting the forums would be visually boring I think.

And -- so what -- I don't just come here for the reading. I like the fact that nude men are everywhere on the site. I only visit JUB when I am at home anyway so I don't have to be afraid of who is viewing behind me.

We all know this is a porn site and no one is forcing us to be here.

Can't we all just (group) ??

No offense to my buddy Kul, but I like the porn avatars as you can tell my the one I'm sporting. Also I'd just like to add...Guns don't kill people, People kill people.

The proposal to disable the display of avatars entirely makes those who don't like the porn ones hostage to those who want to flaunt sexuality everywhere.

Kuli, you can always do what I've done. If you're using Firefox, you can Adblock the offending member's avatar and signature. Believe me, that simple trick has made me a much happier JUBer.

That said, I do understand your original point. Why is this avatar good but that photo isn't? It's a quandary.

If you're going to insist people keep their pornographic avatars in the porn section, I'm going to insist you keep your political one in the political section.

Lex

Invalid comparison.
If I had a picture of a gun going off, blowing something up, as my avatar, that would be a valid comparison. An equivalent of mine would be a "Porn Lovers of America" avatar.

Besides, do you really get the political statement my avatar is making?

here we go

yet one more thread turned into a soapbox for the gun lobby

No, turned into a thread for common sense, because there are people who just don't accept the facts, or the right of people to defend themselves. You and others insist on attacking an individual right that is inherent to all people, and guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution, quite frequently. If someone attacked Muslims at every turn, wouldn't you respond? If someone accused you of being a hypocrite and a false Muslim because you're gay, wouldn't you explain matters?

I'm running out of patience. Stick to the damn topic or stay out of the thread. Enough baiting and presonal, petty bullshit! Am I understood?!

Okay, given Firefox for a browser, how do I turn off selected avatars?
