Now this is a tough one...

For film, I'd have to agree with a few other posters and say that Singin' In the Rain is the best filmed musical...Although My Fair Lady, Moulin Rouge, and Rocky Horror Picture Show gave it a run for it's money.

As for stage musical...

I'd have to give the edge to Les Miserables. We read the book in grade eight, and our teacher showed us some snippets from the Anniversary Concert, and it's been ingrained in my mind ever since.

I Do LOVE Funny Girl but It's an OK Musical, not that many songs....
 
Whats your favorite musical?

Hey guys I was just watching Rent earlier and had an idea for a thread. So I did a search and nothing came up for favorite musicals.
So my question to thee is whats your favorite musical and song from it.
I'm loving Rent and the song 525600 minutes. It's so good!:gogirl:

Hairspray! Though I'm taking more of a liking to the music from the film version than the musical.

It's a toss up between Cabaret and Rent.

I love The Phantom of the Opera, but it's not my favorite musical.

My favorite musical is "Singing in the Rain". My favorite song from the movie is the title song "singing in the rain". They don't make movies like that now.

My favorite musical is 'Wicked' and my favorite songs are 'Defying Gravity' and 'For Good'.

Saw "Lion King" and "Billy Elliot" when we were in London a couple of months ago. Both were fabulous shows, but my favourite of all time is "Les Miserables". Great story, spectacular staging and some of the most moving and memorable music & songs I've ever heard. Seen it four times so far.

...the ending is simply heartbreaking.

...and in a very close second Billy Elliot, Wicked, My Fair Lady, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Spring Awakening.
