What's Your Favorite Musical?

Re: Whats your favorite musical?

Hard to choose one but between

Les Miserables
Sweeney Todd - with Angela Lansbury
West Side Story
and a really older one 7 Brides for 7 Brothers

Re: Whats your favorite musical?

The Rocky Horror Picture Show!
favorite song is probably I Can Make You A Man or I'm Going Home

2nd place is Chicago (no one has listed this yet!? shame!)
Cell Block Tango is my favorite

Re: Whats your favorite musical?

GREASE!

how can you not love Grease?

it's the WORD!

Re: Whats your favorite musical?

Sound of Music is definitely #1 for me.

After that it's hard to choose...
Singin' In the Rain,
West Side Story,
South Pacific,
Little Shop of Horrors,
and Carousel (never seen the whole thing but it has 2 great songs - You'll Never Walk Alone, and Soliloquy)

and if I have to choose my favourite song from Sound of Music, it's I Have Confidence, (winning by a hair over Climb Every Mountain and Do-Re-Mi and the title song, lol)

Re: Whats your favorite musical?

does the south park movie count as a musical?

I loved that.

Re: Whats your favorite musical?

My all time favorite is the Phantom of the Opera (Webber Version) with Les Miserables in second by a microscopic hair.
Favorite Song from Phantom has to be "Music of the Night"
Favorite Songs from Les Mis are definitely "I Dreamed a Dream" (the rendition from the 10th Anniversary Cast is the best) and "Bring Him Home"

Re: Whats your favorite musical?

I LOVE SO MANY!!!

Funny Girl, Into the Woods, Gypsy, The King and I, The Phantom of the Opera, and Wicked are at the top of my list.

My Favorite song from Funny Girl is the Overture. (Geeky? I Know...)

My Favorite song from Into the Woods is Children will Listen.

My Favorite song from Gypsy is Rose's Turn.

My Favorite song from The King and I is either Hello, Young Lovers or Shall We Dance?

My Favorite song from The Phantom of the Opera is All I Ask of You.

and My Favorite song from Wicked is I'm Not That Girl.

Re: Whats your favorite musical?

Hairspray! Though I'm taking more of a liking to the music from the film version than the musical.

^^ :D I love the film though I never saw the play. watched it too many times to count lol.

Re: Whats your favorite musical?

For me, Les Miserables, Rent, Sound of Music, I think Metta posted a link to the music of "The Book of Mormon musical" by the people that wrote South Park. I listened to the music samples they had and It was excellent. The music was good, blasphemous and very deserving of praise considering what the LDS church did to get prop 8 defeated, and the official bullying they plague they're gay members with.

Re: Whats your favorite musical?

Rent was the first musical I ever saw so it holds that special place in my heart. Not to mention I can pretty much sing the whole musical from start to finish in my head. I've seen it that many times.

But I would have to say my favorite musical is Jekyll and Hyde. Great musical, I highly recommend it. A few songs worth checking out on youtube: Facade, Confrontation, Dangerous Game.

Re: Whats your favorite musical?

Someone mentioned Carousel earlier in this thread and we just finished watching it this week... I was very disappointed in it. Poorly written story and script, although the dance number following "June is Bustin' Out All Over" was pretty good, and Gordon McRae really can sing. But he and Shirley Jones were better in Oklahoma! which was a much better movie than Carousel.

Haha, that was me ;) You're probably right... I've never actually seen the whole thing, but if you want to know favourite songs from a musical, "Soliliquy" gets me every time.

And seeing an earlier comment about My Fair Lady reminded me of a line that Higgins' mother says, which I'm still waiting for an opportunity to use. It's when he visits his mother and her greeting is, "Henry, what a disagreeable surprise." Alas, the few Henrys I know would not understand or appreciate that comment :-)

I'm into musicals since this summer. My favorites for now:

- Grease
- Hairspray
- Evita
- Cabaret
- Victor, Victoria

And some French one (Cleopatre, Romeo & Juliette...)

For me it's a toss up between "Singing in the Rain" or "The Wizard of OZ". It's amazing that "The Wizard of Oz", which was made in 1939, is still popular among many people.
