I've become more and more of a wine drinker over the last year. I started with white, and stuck with it until a few months ago when my boss exposed me to the awesomeness of red wine.

I'm in love with the 2008 Catena Malbec lately. In fact, I'm about half way through a bottle as I write this.

What's your favourite wine?

Well, I've been drinking a lot of red wine lately. My last two purchases were zinfandel. Can't say I have a favorite, but I DO love the taste of the different wines :)

Sir Ron is not a wine expert, but he knows what he likes.

Having grown up with plenty of dry, strong California and Italian red wine from gallon jugs (like many Italian-American kids), my tastes were raised on burgundy, lambrusco, chianti, and the like..... My granddfathers (both of them) also made their own wine....always strong!

I tend to like my red wines a little on the lighter side now, (semi-dry), and white wine that has a hint of sweetness top it.

One thing that I haven't given up is using the heavy wine of my youth for cooking. When I make sauce for pasta, I always put a half-glass of muscatel into it. Muscatel is probably looked down upon by those who consider their palates more educated, but it's made in Western New York , (must support the local economy), and it holds its flavor in tomato sauce.

And when I am looking for a guilty pleasure, I will occasionally have a glass of it with some crusty bread, cheese and olives. it reminds me of the simple lunches I shared with my grandfather (a true Old Sicilian) as a kid...

Another guilty wine pleasure.....pink catawba (again, I know it's not a "cool" choice, but I do enjoy an occasional glass of it...) :D

Oh how I miss it so....

^ Ditto. I don't drink wine. A good diet cola will do me fine, thanks. :)

2010 Premeur Catalan Syrah Merlot

That was onw of the nouveau style wines released ths past nivember. It was fantastic.

Robert Mondavi's Woodbridge Moscato is excellent too, if you like sweeter whites.

I'll drink pretty much anything, however I tend to favor merlots, cab savs, gamays and shiraz for reds. For whites, I like fruity pinot grigios, rieslings and on occasion chardonnay.

Holy Cross Abbey Merlot.

It's made by a winery in Canon City, Colorado, in a historic former Benedictine monastery and school. The school closed years ago, and the monastery gradually declined until it was pretty near empty, which was kinda sad because the buildings are wonderful examples of 1920s Neo Gothic architecture. To help make ends meet, the monastery started a winery years ago and it kept going after the monastery finally closed. Some of the monks still own the winery and are making a pretty good go of it.

Here's the description of it from the Holy Cross Abbey's Web site:

100% Colorado grapes from Talbott Farms in Palisade. A beautiful fruit-forward wine, loads of black cherry, berry & spice. Oak is a subtle nuance, adding amazing complexity to this wine. Soft tannin structure with loads of luscious fruit. Drink now or age for 4-6 years.

I can attest ... it's my favorite Merlot. More expensive than many, but it's worth it! :D

Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Marechal Foch.....

Pinot Gris from Alsace, France
but quality varies greatly, when it's good, it's really really good :)

Same here really.

I buy at lot of Beaujolais Villages. At the moment I'm drinking Domaine des Nugues.

For white, I prefer a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Lawson's Dry Hills and Villa Maria are both good.

All three can be had from Majestic.

I love cleanskin Aussie wines, especially shiraz. Usually some good quality stuff and bargain price.

I prefer a nice fortified wine though, especially a good tawny port or white port.

Whatever's in the carton.

But then, I couldn't tell the difference between the world's most expensive coffee and a mug of Maxwell House.

I'm a red wine drinker, mostly, and my favourites tend to be the Cabernet Sauvignons.

However, my favourite which is usually very good to excellent is a Cab Franc/Merlot blend from Landskroon here in the Paarl region of the Cape winelands in .za.
