OK. I am guilty as charged but I've not been able to do that lately thanks to greater surveillance at my workplace. Do you guys browse the internet during work (apart from what is related to your work) and some of you also watch porn clips during breaks or free time? What's your take on this issue? I think it's kind of unethical but again who I am to say that given my history....#-o

I can do it, but then, I own the firm.

I don't get all out of twist if someone wants to do a little random surfing for personal time as long as it is being used as a brief break. It is no different than picking up a newspaper or gossiping around the water cooler.

I don't think I would be happy if people were surfing porn at work though...............hmmmmmmmmmm.

I would never check out porn at work, soft or otherwise. I just stalk the hot men in my building.

:D

Entirely inappropriate. If I'm at work, I'm there to make my employer money, not get my sexual kicks. Even if I hate my job, I try to do the best job I can.

I couldn't have said it better! (so I didn't) :D

I think it's highly inappropriate.

I do sometimes read the news or car forums at work, but only if I'm also working at the same (it's possible while waiting for huge files (<6 GB) to save, waiting for code to compile, or waiting for long processes to finish running. I can't do much else on my computer during that time anyway.)

It's stealing from your employer. There are many other people who would gladly take your job.

Hope you enjoy your unemployment - only jobs are fast food and retail.

I think work should be illegal. Most people hate it. As opposed to internet porn, which nearly everyone loves.

It's unethical. We go to work to work (yes I repeat the phrase), not to browse porn, unless you're a website inspector, a porn website developer, or a web designer hired to design a porn website.

What a high-minded and moral group of people here!

I would never surf for porn at work - our internet is monitored and I don't want to get sacked (I enjoy many aspects about my job). But like everybody else, I do have down times at work, when either there's a fallow period, or when I'm too tired to concentrate fully. Then I may use the internet for not work-related proposes - emailing friends, for example.

As for this guff about "company time"; I do half of my work at work, and the other half at home. In fact I can be more productive at home, as I'm not constantly interrupted. As far as I'm concerned, using the internet at work for personal purposes is a fair perk of the job, as long as I don't overdo it. (FWIW, I've won both local and national awards for the quality of my work.)

At work?

AT WORK????

I have times when I do some news or blog reading, a quick Facebook post or two... and I'm fine with the staff who report to me doing the same for the sole reason that they are super productive.... but porn?

No. No. Just no.

I don't get why people look at porn at work. Do they jack-off too or just look? Either way it's inappropriate but I never understood why you'd look at porn at work when you can't do anything with it.

Do it at your own peril. This is indeed the truth!

Internet browsing is fine, provided it doesn't disrupt you from working for great quantities of time.

Any porn at work, is highly inappropriate, even if you're self-employed.

I think I am least horny at work. I've never had the urge to look at porn at work but we have a blocker so even if you tried it wouldn't work. If some how you do and get busted, you get fired. Not worth it.

Thanks for your input though there were some extremely self-righteous-moral-brigade type replies. Yes, watching porn at work is deplorable act but many here have agreed to going to Facebook and browsing for fun during breaks etc. I guess that is also not acceptable then. If you are at work then you should totally concentrate on your work, no?

I've always thought it should be an offense that led to immediate termination.
