DittoThere was a storm passing through the north today, mainly affecting Scotland. We had showers this morning, but it has been dry and warm since about 2 pm.

Storm Floris batters UK with winds over 80mph
An amber warning covers most of Scotland and there is a yellow warning in parts of England, Wales and Northern Ireland.www.bbc.co.uk
I live in the Tampa Bay area Florida, and it’s coming down here as well. I’m sure not as badly as it is in your area, but it is a very hard thunderstorm.Salem is pretty much shutdown. It is coming down snow and ice. I don't know when I might be able to get out again.
I normally keep my temp inside at 70 degrees, but it is so cold I have it at 75 and I am thinking of turning it up again. Maybe I will drink some hot tea or hot chocolate.
Ooh nice. Send that here - atleast the lightning part of it!Petallways said:it is a very hard thunderstorm.
There were times when leaving work where I had to wait before leaving due to heavy rain or hail on a thunderstorm. Lightning on the other hand wouldn't stop me from going outside...infact if there's lightning & its not raining, I'll go out to watch and video it (especially at night).Araucaria said:^I lived in Tampa for 17 years, and they have ferocious thunderstorms in the summer. There were several times that I had to wait in the office, or at the front of the supermarket, etc., because of frequent sharp lightning strikes and torrential rain. I'd have no choice but to wait until the storms eased up enough to get to my car.

As long as its not raining I'll sit out & watch (sometimes video)...and have sat out - on porches, ground, even roofs - watching storms with both cloud-to-ground & in-cloud lightning. I don't fear it (infact I love it), but ofcourse in any case I'm not the highest point.Araucaria said:It depends on what the lightning is doing. In Florida we have frequent cloud-to-ground lightning strikes. In fact, most weather-related deaths in the state are due to lightning strikes. There was a professor killed by lightning crossing a parking lot on the campus of a university two blocks from where I lived at the time. You don't want to be out when that is happening. On the other hand, I've seen spectacular lightning displays like what you're describing. In that case, all the lightning is within the clouds, and there is no cloud-to-ground lightning strikes going on.
