On a point of pedantry the indigenous populations of North, and South America had a well established track record for doing just this in what is now termed tribal warfare, before the arrival of the British, French, Dutch, German, Spanish, and Portuguese colonists. The chart is a little misleading. The large white section is the current account balance. It is a comparison of foreign purchases from us versus the foreign sled of other countries. China is selling a lot more: a good thing for them. The US buys a lot more from others than they buy from us. Not so good, but it has gone on for decades as it is a result of the strength of the US economy which can consistently buy more. It is one reason the US is the locomotive of the world economy and its currency is the reserve currency of the world. It is also a part of the reason we are able to sell our government securities, i.e. borrow by the trillion.
Calling it a debt is a bit misleading, and, of course, our actual national debt is 18 trillion and growing rapidly.

You may live in an are where your homosexuality is of little issue to the people around you, or to your job. There are other gay and lesbian persons, who in this very same country, live in hostile enviroments. If they come out at work, the employer will find some reason to fire them. I know a couple of people that this has happened to. So why don't gay people in such places move away? Money and family. Your job is paying for all of the things you need in life. Picking up and leaving for many is not an option, as they have too much invested in their home and property. There are no laws in my state (NC) that would prevent me from being fired if I came out at work. My co-worker was fired after he came out. Of course they used another excuse, but the real reason for firing him is because he was gay, and that made the other workers uncomfortable. So you see, although there are fantanstic places for gay people in the United States, there are also difficult and sometimes hostile places. I had a friend who was tied to the back of a truck and dragged down the highway. He managed to survive but the murderes finished by cutting his head off. Oh, yes he was gay. 2 other gay friends were tied up, had their penises cut off, and stuffed in each other's mouths. They bled to death.

Perhaps this is the safest gay Country in the World, but we've still got a long way to go.

Chinese labor is waaay too expensive now. Best to go to SE Asia (Vietnam, Indonesia, India). Shit is still made in China because it takes time to move production facilities (see rustbelt).

But the real cheap labor is in Africa and parts of the middle-east (Qatar, UAE). We just need to bring some political stability and property rights enforced by the stable government.

"They do it too" isn't quite the moral highground most four year olds think it is. That's usually who y'hear that kind of 'argument' from, anyway.

-there's also a big of a difference on scale. There's a difference between arguing (even lethally) with your neighbors and sailing across seas in great numbers t'boot/trick/kill/cheat someone off the land they're using. Oh, and living memory. Living memory is a big one.
