One of my favorite fairy tales.

If he could be dragged, kicking and screaming, no doubt, to a slave graveyard in the North, you've got to wonder what kind of convoluted and cockamamie story he'd come up with to explain the circumstances. Or shown census records clearly recording the presence of slaves in states which were never in whole or in part south of the Mason-Dixon line. Or shown evidence of Northern merchants engaged in the slave trade.

He'd probably come up with some way to say it was all the fault of those pesky, dark-skinned immogrunts ... that they just carted all of those dead bodies all the way up north to confuse people into voting for the abhorrent Dimmycrats.

I think an argument can be made that America has never been great. i honestly believe that no country is great. When people accept others for who they are 100% and everyone is equal. When there is no poverty and no unemployment. When everyone is able to get a good education. I think that once these things and more happen, then America or any country can consider itself great.

This is where I am, I too am of the school of "Until all of us are free none of us are free." I can't say "Well only 4% of the country is suffering so we're doing pretty good." Cuz, ya know, I have a soul. That 4% is people, living human beings with the same desires and goals as anybody else but because of a system that favors the elite they are all but shut out of a dream that's supposed to be available to everyone. Not some, not a few, not most, EVERYONE.

The US has led the world in innovation and continues to do so. History will have little choice but to give it the leadership position it deserves. It led the world in innovatibg the telegraph, telephone, radio, electrical system, lighting and appliances, motion pictures ,automobile, machanized farming, computers, internet, and in new drugs and medical devices. Not always the initial invention, but the quick application and expansion. Its resulting economic dominance has been unparalleled in world history.
In the long view of history, the US will be seen as a leader in democracy, civil rights and human freedom, and the major force for good, while the current use of contrary accusations for partisan and political purposes fades into insignificance. We complain about the US slowness on gay rights, but in the future a frw years more or less will not seem significant. Who remembers how long it took to get the Bill of Rights adopted. Who cares?
The big story will be how that great country was pulled down to authoritarian poverty in so few years.

The transatlantic slave trade involved sick slaves being tied together and thrown off the ship, women were raped, men were raped, men were castrated and lynched, human beings were bred like animals and separated from their families, their culture and language was stripped, they were beaten and tortured mercilously.

American Blacks like to think that they were uniquely mistreated but throughout history, the line between slavery and poverty has neen a thin one.
In the early 1800s, the vast majority of mankind lived in one room hovels; little food, no plumbing, one set of clothes, no medical care worthy of the name. The one thing that has raised humanity has not been charity or welfare, socialim is or liberalism. It has been free enterprise capitalism --individuals working to get rich--bringing the industrial revolution, first in Britain then the US, and democracy with it as the affluent middle class demanded a voice.

Easily spoken from someone who hasn't and/or isn't suffering under the less flattering facets of our nation. When rapists are getting less time than weed dealers there is no stretch of the imagination that can call the system great. When black youth use drugs less frequently but are more likely to be imprisoned for drug-related it's easy for a white guy to sit back and say "Meh, still a great country." A gun that killed an unarmed black teen was just sold for $120k simply because it was used to kill a black teen. Not a thug, not a child molester, not a serial murderer, a fucking child. That is collective sinister and beyond unforgivable. Great? Kiss my ass.

Review: Our justice system is shit, our financial system is in dissaray, our political culture is, well calling it childish would be a compliment. Hollywood is still promoting ignorance, sexism and dangerous ideas of beauty. But at least our poor people have Iphones so I guess it's all good.

All that happened on occassion and has been exaggerated. Similar bad things happen all over the world at all times. And African Americans have done and are doing more than their share of bad things. More than half the violent crimes in the US are committed by blacks. How many millions of blacks have been slaughtered by other blacks in the African Civil wars in country after country? Angola, Congo. liberia, Sudan, Uganda, on and on. And it was going on in Africa when the first Europeans explored the area and continued. Remember Shaka Zulu?
We should not deny or minimize that part of US history, but neither should we exaggerate it or wallow in it. Nor should we allow it to impair our ability to deal with crrent problems.

Of the five founder-presidents, none would be recognised as Christians by the likes of Pat Robertson, save perhaps one, the last, and that only toward the end of his life.

As an aside, I'd also note that of the two men commonly regarded as being the greatest to have held the office of Secretary of the Treasury, neither would have held that office if the founders had believed in your anti-immigrant nonsense, because neither would have been let in to the country.
