Does it bother you if you hear guys use the word? I posted a thread asking about this in a straight forum and the general consensus was yes they use it but they don't use it towards gay people. They use it as a way to insult someone acting annoying, similar to the word "douchebag".

Also, someone posted this:

To me, the word always felt like something that had a lot of force and hate to it. The last time I remember saying it was about 4 years ago when I was ready to fight a guy and my temper exploded. I ended up just kicking his door instead and after I cooled off, apologized.

Kind of surprised at how many people in the thread I posted state they use it in their everyday lives and everyone around them does. One even said he uses it at work and the gay guys he works with don't care.

Thoughts?

The places I lived all my life it was a derogatory term towards gay people, so when people say they don't use it to insult gays I don't buy it because there are so many other words they could use to insult people. Yet they choose that one.

Of course there are people that might not be bothered by it, but that is not an "OK" to use it every where and not consider how other gay people might feel about it. This is just a part of these people being out of touch with any sort of perspective outside of their own selfishness.

It's just a word so I don't give a damn it gets used as much as the "C" word does here.

For me it means nothing.

I agree. If you grow up being bullied by that word yes it bothers me.

PS - Louis CK is fucking ugly as sin! (I just had to )

Faggot is the most vulgar word you can use against a gay person, and using it to insult a straight person is not any better.

Dick is to pussy as cock is to cunt as faggot is to...

I'm still waiting for the equalizer there. One that actually has common usage outside the LGBT community too.

In either case, I think we gays have a right to object to use of the word faggot in everyday use. It's an insult that means your gay.

^^The "C" word is the most aggressive of them all.In England it sounds very aggressive when used In an argument even Big Brother won't allow their housemates to use it very often.

Yeah I hate it. Even when they don't know better. Often because they don't know better

I don´t. Hell, I used it on straight guys. When you´re angry, you don´t really think of what is appropiate to say and what not. It´s just a word and I´d much rather use an insult than throw a punch. Or receive one.

Of course, used to put down a gay man, itñs a whole other issue.

I almost landed myself in trouble by "reacting" when i was called a faggot by a chav, he wanted to call the police, i agreed and reminded him of the offence homophobic actions. Needless to say he changed his mind, though his girlfriend was not impressed.

No I dont, I find the word amusing ^^

I don't really care about faggot as it has never really been used in the UK. It just sounds a bit odd to my ears, and if I heard it I would probably be annoyed as it would be a real choose to use that word and direct it at someone.

I don't know about aggressive at all! I use cunt all the time - to me growing up in Essex and London it was just something everyone said all the time; both friendly and aggressively. If anything I would say we are much more relaxed on it than the Americans, although I think we are with all swear words.

The word doesn't bother me but I recognize that it bothers others. I don't use it.

I had a roommate that would say it all the time when describing anyone she didn't like, male or female. Then she would remember that I am next to her and smile and say "sorry." That really irked me because it clearly registered that it could be offensive to me and yet she used it anyway without care. Her apologies were fake and made into a joke, except it wasn't funny to anyone else. A third roommate tried to talk to her about it but was told that she would say it if she wanted to, blah blah blah.
