  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

When you cook, do you clean as you go along?

I'm not a clean person, but I play one on JUB;)

Now, don't ask me about dusting. If you can't write your name on a table, it's clean. I have similar philosophies about vacuumimg and changing sheets.
I've never tried finger-writing my name on a dirty sheet, I didn't know that would work. LOL

Always clean while I cook. I mean, you have time to do it while stuff is cooking, perhaps we're both OCD.
Or you're multitasking.

Yep, while things are heating up or being mixed or cooking, I'll start to wash a few things and put them away.

Yes, always.

After I cook anything it doesn't look like I even cooked at all. Everything is washed and the counters are cleaned. I hate having a big mess to clean up after cooking so I make sure there is barely any mess to clean up.

Much easier and less stressful that way.

I wish my mom could. I also wish she could cook a meal without burning it. She sometimes has a very short attention span, but I love her anyway.

Yes, I do a lot of the cleaning while I am cooking. ALthough sometimes I lose focus and that's not always good. The more I clean during the cooking process, the less I have to clean up when I'm done eating. Plus, I can enjoy the meal more, without a big mess in the kitchen.

No. Cooking and eating are about pleasure. There is plenty of time to take care of the responsibilities of cleaning once the meal is thoroughly savoured and digested.

I'm always concerned about the excellence of my final product so it has become second nature to me to try to maximize my efficiency. That means, clean as you go along. Eliminating distractions and clearing obstacles to producing good work is part of focused cooking itself.

I've observed plenty of people who haven't developed this habit. A few can rise above their dishevelment. Most can't.

I usually put the pots to soak in the sink for a little while, and then deal with them either later in the evening or early the next day.

I know the b/f prefers to clean stuff as he goes along though...

A dirty kitchen equals ants everywhere, a disturbing sight I don't ever want to see. I clean it up as soon as I finish or almost finish.

Absolutely, it is the way my mom taught me to cook.
Every dish pot and utensal is washed and put away as soon as I have finished used it. I also wipe any spills as they happen wash out every can to be recycled and wipe down and clean the range or stove after dinner is done.
It's just the way I was brought up.:D

I do, can't stand the sight of dirty dishes while cooking. I'm not a good cook anyway, so better be good at cleaning up.

I clean as i go that way when everything is ready to be served, all i have to do is the dishes that the food is served on!! Makes it a lot easier, especially if you have a social gathering afterwards!!!

I always clean as I go. In fact by the time the meal is on the plate all the pots and pans are washed and draining and the surfaces are wiped.

Sometimes, the meal might need a quick blast in the microwave before I eat it.

If I'm cooking loads of veg I make enough to be plated up for the next day so saving all that washing up. Then I only have to cook the meat item fresh.

Call me OCD if you like but I think it's an efficient way of working.

Alan

Usually clean as I go. It's difficult to enjoy a nice meal when there's a filthy kitchen awaiting your attention.

I love my cleaning lady too, but it's no substitute for basic picking up after yourself ;)

You sound like my mom who cleans up the house before the cleaning lady gets there because she's too embarrassed to let the cleaning lady see how dirty the house is that week. That's bizarre, and something I don't get.
