Golf is the most middle class thing going!
American middle class is different from British middle class. To Americans middle class is the average Joe, in the UK its someone way wealthier than Joe Smo.
^ In the U.K., class is a social status. In the U.S., class is a personal virtue.
Oh OK. In the UK, middle class would generally mean professional people who would normally be expected to have greater disposable income than the average man. Interesting!
Actually, in the UK it can be both. Many people still think of society in terms of working, middle and upper class, but that's separate (or at least semi-detached) from the concept of having class. There are plenty of people who would be described as middle class based on occupation or income, but who spend their money or behave in a showy or tasteless manner and would not be considered to have class.
