  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

When you watch the rich living their lives ....

I took the time to read quickly.
I don't know what are you talking about and sort of not on topic

^ Read it again, but slower, Telly. :telstra:

Golf is the most middle class thing going!

American middle class is different from British middle class. To Americans middle class is the average Joe, in the UK its someone way wealthier than Joe Smo.

^ In the U.K., class is a social status. In the U.S., class is a personal virtue.

^ Our president is (supposedly) a very wealthy man, and (currently) holds the most powerful position on the planet.

As for class, he's a -10!

Oh OK. In the UK, middle class would generally mean professional people who would normally be expected to have greater disposable income than the average man. Interesting!

Actually, in the UK it can be both. Many people still think of society in terms of working, middle and upper class, but that's separate (or at least semi-detached) from the concept of having class. There are plenty of people who would be described as middle class based on occupation or income, but who spend their money or behave in a showy or tasteless manner and would not be considered to have class.

Having class has very little to do with having money. You can be poor in a simple, elegant manner, and you can also be rich in a showy, tasteless, disrespectful manner, as Unload just said.

Yeah. I know that. And, I love all of my friends, and relatives, "across the pond". (group)

(A pair of my Dad's socks was once worn to lunch with The Queen. That's a long story for another time. )

I was playing on the concepts of "class" in a vain attempt to get a point across to Telly. :telstra:

I was thinking that since he's from Oz, which is part of The Commonwealth, a reference to U.K. social structures might strike a chord, or at least a note.

Granted: Some might argue over which former colony has diverged the furthest from what is properly British; the Aussies, or us damned Yanks. :slap:

But, Hey! I figured it was worth the try. :help:
