When's the last time you went to a movie on release day?

I saw Krampus on release day but I knew there wouldn't be crowds for it. I want to see Star Wars but won't see this probably for a week.

There was one, either Jurassic Park or The Green Mile... maybe Independence Day. I can't remember which, all 3 of these are tied as my favorite movies.

This will be the first time in about 5 years.

Very possibly *NEVER* - at least for any movie for which the premiere was even the least bit SLIGHTLY newsworthy.

I saw the world premiere - showing in one sole location at first - of a movie about A. Pinochet's brutal dictatorship in Chile about 15 years ago, in Detroit...and I've seen the first public showings of literally HUNDREDS of obscure short films at film festivals.

The short films are not truly the first showings, period, because the program of a film festival is always distilled from (usually) a farther-too-large selection of films that were previously screened by judges or jurists, etc. No, not in a courtroom, but volunteers or paid people who run the film festivals.

I've also seen at least one or two world premieres of movies that went "straight to Cable" - Prayers for Bobby is one that I can think of.

I figure there's no point; I may miss some kind of introductory stuff or something, but otherwise it's the same movie three days, or three years, later. I feel no compelling urge to queue for a day and a half just so that I can be the eighth person into the showing.

I saw Journey to the Centre of the Earth on release day with a group of friends (the 2008 version obviously). It's a really good movie by the way. :)

I've never seen a movie on its release date. However, I've seen a movie ('Dark Crystal') when my friend and I were the only 2 people in the theatre.

I don't believe I've seen a movie on release day. Way too many people in the theater.

I have went by myself before and was the only person there. Also one time an old lady came in at the last minute and just had to sit one seat over from me in a theater that holds 500. Pissed me off.

When Django Unchained came out.

I took Ariel to see LofR:RofK so, back in December of 2003 I think.

One thing I hate about seeing a movie in the theatre is the people who either won't shut up, make too much noise, stink, spill things, use their phone, etc...
like, when me and my friend went to see The Hills Have Eyes, we sat in front of these two girls who wouldn't shut the fuck up... all throughout the movie they kept saying shit like "Why is she screaming?" or "Shut the fuck up!" when the girl in the movie was screaming. I mean, how about YOU shut the fuck up! All throughout the movie they were bitching about various shit.

People using their phone during a movie is the most irritating thing though, because if you're sitting closer to the back, you will see a sea of bright glowing screens in the audience. Movie theatres should install jammers... or how about just confiscate cell phones at the door like they do with some concerts.
