Where in the Bible is homosexuality prohibited?

It's priest. Have a little priest.
Is it really good?
Sir, it's too good, at least!
Then again, they don't commit sins of the flesh,
So it's pretty fresh.

Mankind projects its fears onto society & religion - thus HOMO-SEXUALITY is feared! "More deviation, less population" meant a smaller group of believers, so the message was "PRODUCE!" Today, the world is over-produced & we need to slow down - thus the creator supports LOVE that need not cause more "mankind". Just recognize that LOVE need not produce offspring & being gay is the creators answer!..|

COOL - so God has decided he can stop the poulation explosion by encouraging gays to not breed - no doubt he inspired the Chinese "one child" policy as well - guess he must have had a hand in the holocaust to? - at least 6 million Jews didn't breed after that - though God caught a few of us gays in his holy crossfire then - but hey - even god can have a few "firendly fire" fuck up's ?

Tee Hee. This post doesn't tell us that much other than that an overly anthropomorphic, negative and simplistic perspective is as unbalanced and naive as a rose colored faith based perpective.

P.S. If you're religious, God gets off the hook for the Holocaust, etc. for any one of a number of reasons having to do with things like the consequencies of free will and the other causes of evil.

That's quite a detour from good sense and logic, angelboy! darcey is talking about love, and you haul in violence and hate.
Your answer reveals a lot about you, but adds little to the discussion.

And remember that this is a no-flame zone.... we're supposed to deal with topics respectfully.

I really wish that some of these text-commissioning deities would get their acts together and just provide us with clear instructions on what we should do in order to embrace Heaven and avoid Hell. :help:

Actually, YHWH, the Being behind the Bible (ooh, love that alliteration), has made it plain -- it's just that so many people love having rules that they ignore the substance of the message. It's hard growing up, and growing up requires leaving rules for principles, so....
Jesus said to reach the Kingdom of Heaven one must become child-like; unfortunately, too many who claim Him would rather be childish... it's so much easier!

Leviticus 18:22 “You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination.”

Leviticus 20:13 “If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act.”

Luckily for us, it's all a bunch of foolish hogwash.

Right up there with Adam and Eve and Noah's arc.

The Bible is outdated. It doesn't apply to our time.

That is one problem I have with christianity and religion in general - the dogma and it's tradition is carried on from the start of its existence even though it doesnt apply anymore. Catholicism is strict about these tradition and I think it's time for a change if they want to attract more people into the "kingdom".

That's a common refrain from people who are clueless.

Christianity -- I'm not going to venture to speak for other religions, especially in a thread about the Bible -- basically says, "The ship is sinking, and we have the lifeboat."
What you're saying is that lifeboats are outdated.

Here's some ancient truths from Christianity -- tell me which ones you think aren't true any longer:

people in general have screwed-up lives
lying is a common fault
working for a living is better than stealing
everyone is basically selfish
murder is just wrong
love is like the most important thing of all

A half dozen is good....

noelie.. Thanks :-) I totally agree.

And kulindahr, have you just read what you wrote?
Those christian facts? I think they are quite obvious and common sense really.
Anyone born wouldn't have to be christian and read the bible to actually know these things not unless he was raised by animals or vegetables.

One thing that gets me with religion - it's the whole "exclusivity" thing.

Our "common sense" is based upon many "christian " teachings. Just be aware that LOVE is the core of all (if not most) religious teachings. To reject religion, is to reject LOVE (&, no, I'm NOT talking of the church {temporal} but of the CHURCH {spiritual}) & w/o LOVE we all are in PAIN! Just stop trying to bust my chops regarding belief & live in LOVE - I sure won't care if one is "religious" or not. "It ain't what ya' do but the way that ya' do it" is the credo here!..|

That's a common refrain from people who are clueless.

Isn't calling someone clueless for having a particular belief or opinion akin to the hogwosh comment?

In fact, that could be construed as an insult on the believer, and not just the belief (like the hogwash comment was), which seems somewhat like a Flame to me. But that's just my opinion. I haven't read the Bible, so I might not be the best person to contribute to a discussion of religion.

Gosh I wonder how we made it this far since Christianity was only made up two thousand years ago and Judaism has only been around a few thousand more than that yet the human race is millions of years old!!??!! However have we survived without "Christian" teachings?? especially since all other religions are wrong??
I consider that Judaism, Christianity, Islam (and all other text-based religions*) are pretty much Johnny-come-latelys as far as human history is concerned.

*Yep, I'm one of those people who does not accept the notion that the Vedas (for example) are tens of thousands of years old.

Its all a matter of opinion - I also agree that the Bible is outdated and doesn't apply to our time and I'm not clueless. Its a matter of opinion as to its relevancy or otherwise - the same applies to all other religions. I choose to reject the Bible and all that it stands for and I reject any attempt by anyone else to say that it should apply to me.

You're not clueless?
You just said that you:

approve of murder, theft, and rape
approve of kids disrespecting their parents and other authority
think love and peace are bad ideas
disapprove of helping widows and children
advise everyone to disobey all laws

The fact that you can say with a straight face that you "reject... all that it stands for" without realizing what you've just said shows you're clueless. Its relevance isn't opinion at all, unless you want to claim that people getting angry leads to strife, that greed blossoms into all kinds of trouble, that neighbors getting along well isn't a good thing, that generosity is bad....

I also think it is wrong to tell people that they are clueless for having an opinion that excludes your world view (religion). The ship isn't sinking - it never was (except for prehistoric men who were ignorant of the facts - science) and it never will. Life will always find a way to survive at least until the planet is consumed by the sun in a few million years.

For those of us who through use of our faculties can see - the attempt by Christianity to reinvent itself to make itself relevant is simply disingenuous and dishonest and a vain attempt to hold onto power and control of other's lives in its last dying gasps - it is nothing more than a virus that doesn't want to die.

"Reinvent itself"?
It doesn't have to reinvent itself so long as people have screwed-up lives, etc.

Of course your worship of science doesn't require any moral behavior, so maybe you'd prefer not to listen to Christianity's call to responsibility, etc. From a scientific viewpoint, Hitler's belief in a "Master Race" was a good idea, after all.

One thing that gets me with religion - it's the whole "exclusivity" thing.

I have never understood why people object to the exclusivity claim. It abounds all around us in all sorts of phenomena; why should spiritual life be any different?
A bumblebee can't mate with a manatee; an electron will never attract another electron; things have to have a density less than water to float; in order to get to the top of Mt. Everest, you have to go up.
I know the old rag about many roads to the top of the mountain, but that's so much of a kind with all the other wishful thinking that humans have invented to be able to get away with what they want, it's suspect right off. What we're stuck with so often in the universe we observe is exclusivity -- like, two men who want a baby have to have some "outside help"; or if you want to keep living, you need a supply of air. The real surprise would be to find a Creator whose ideas about reaching Him went contrary to all those lessons that surround us.

Noelie:

Your sig has two concepts in there. I like the "McReligion" one, because what most people in religion do serve up is crap -- because they import their own ideas and impose them on the actual teachings, treat their religious texts as recipe books and train schedules, and even go so far as to refuse to be educated about any of it....

But Bertrand Russell was a pessimist, and that quote is incredibly out of date -- better than 2/3 of all churches in America operate on a "Oh, feel good!" proposition these days (it's probably more, actually).

The Sodom and Gomorrah story is not about homosexuality.
The verse about Lot's daughter's, in context -- cultural especially -- makes it clear that what it's about is what God says elsewhere in the Bible that it's about: hospitality due strangers.
In today's idiom, that little scenario would read more like this:

mob: "Lot, send those two out here so we can fuck 'em!"
Lot: "Neighbors, you know better than to treat guests badly! Look, if you're that horny, take my daughters!"

As is often pointed out (but conveniently forgotten on occasion), that society wasn't too big on the value of women. As prophets describe the occasion later, it's clear that Lot was trying hard to avoid breaking the rules of hospitality to the extent he'd toss his daughters into the street -- and, other commentators aside, those God sent, who got included in the Bible, make a much greater difference.

Check out how Mormonism is developing or Scientology or even Alcoholics Anonymous (yes I know it more involves the notion of a Higher Power in whatever form one conceives him as more psychological assist rather than a religion as such).

Or even Mrs Field's Cookies.

You take a notion expressed by one or more insightful founders and then you work it up into a belief system or franchise with continuing validity.

That not to say the Mrs Field's Cookies don't continue to taste good, but the franchise plan and the need to continue the business overrides the original truth. If Mrs Fields knew how unhealthy her cookies were for you, would she have started the process? Maybe not? But her successors certainly aren't going to stop it.

Likewise with tobacco companies, etc. Likewise with organized religion and likewise with Bible based religions that pretend it's the word of God.

Not to say that truths are not revealed or that Mrs Field's cookies don't taste good, but the historical context, the development over time and the vested interests need to be factored in. Most people can read into the Bible whatever suits them.

Additionally, human knowledge has simply outpaced the ancient text. Looking exclusively to the Bible for moral guidance without any notions that it might be way superseded by intervening knowledge is like using primitive remedies for illnesses.
