It is said that 50% of people live within 50 miles (80 km) of their birthplace.

I do.

Do you?

No. Despite my 'Sconnie pride, I was actually born in Arizona.

Yeah lol lived there all my life :p I'd like to move out of state someday

I am about 4 1/2 hours away by car from where I was born.

It used to be true until summer 2010 - before then I had lived in the same town I was born in, and in the same house for exactly 30 years (age 4 - age 34)

As for the present day, I'm now at the exact opposite end of the U.K. (NW Scotland > SE England) about 600 miles away.

I live a short walk from the hospital I was born in. Same suburb. Still live with my parents. If it were up to me, I'd live further away (same city, though).

I can see the hospital I was born in from my back yard, is that close enough

I live 460 miles from where I was born.

Until I was 38 years old, I DID fit that "within 50 miles" criterion, though to drive there in less than 50 miles wasn't the fastest way to get there, not at all. The fastest way to drive there required 57 miles.

I do as well. I have lived in the same city my whole life (well technically not true, because the city amalgamated in 2000, and the part I lived in before that was technically not the same city - but still definitely well within that distance)

Come to think of it, attaching a poll to this thread would have been a neat idea so we can see after a while how close to 50% we are....

Technically I now live closer to where I was born. I grew up 9km from the hospital I was born at...

Now I live 1.2km from that hospital.
