Re: Which Club Is Going To Win The Premiership This Season?
Middlesbrough, now at thirteenth, incidentally. I'm quite content with that, actually, although it's very tight down there. We've made it through a couple of tough games with a couple of hard-earned and well-deserved points, and maybe we can build onwards.
However, we need to do one thing - we need to capitalise on dominance. We need a proven prolific striker. We need to find someone who will put away the easy chances more often than not, because we hit the bar, missed a load, had a load cleared off the line... if any of those had gone in, we'd have won, and we'd be only three points behind Newcastle.
If we'd done the same against Liverpool, we'd have got another two and hence we'd be only one point behind Newcastle - a team with a regular crowd of more than 20k more than Boro.
And we'd be stretching away from the tightly contested bottom area; If we assume Fulham and Derby are going down, then we've got a good six teams that could all join them, with only two points between us and Sunderland.
The league currently has four groups - 13-20 is the bottom pack, all of whom are flirting with the zone. 10-12 is the mid table section, all of whom are looking safe and comfortable so long as there's no massive slump. 1-3 are all in with a shout for the title, and finally, 4-9 could all make 4th spot - it's as tight as 13-18, with an identical top-bottom difference of two points.
I don't think Boro are at risk of going down, but we need to progress upwards. I really want that Afonso Alves - he knows where the net is, and Dutch football can't be too different to British, I imagine.
