That theoretical line between socialism and social democracy? That would be me. At least at this particular moment. My political views can often be hard to define.

Libertarian. Though, I know the private sector can be just as corrupt as the public sector (AKA the government).

I am a socialist in that I believe in the just redistribution of wealth. I'm a social democrat in that I believe in the value of democratic representation. And, I'm a libertarian in that I believe that government intrusion in private individual social issues should be kept to a minimum. ..|

Wow. Just; wow.

May I ask... do you believe in the legalization of MJ/pot?

A label is merely a sticker that says little, or nothing of the man who at 20 years was a raging revolutionary student, and at 60 years a wiser man, reconciled with his growing awareness that life's journey is a greater teacher, than any political ideology, or manifesto that presumes to hold the monopoly on righteous political theory.

moderate...neither happy with conservatism as it is being represented in the Republican Party nor progressivism by many left leaning Democrats

the market needs to be watched very carefully but government can get heavy handed...individual liberties need to be protected, and the moral police go too far(civil discourse on the crudity in society is one thing but easily is demagogued)so the social right represents something I oppose strongly.I am pro-life,but believe in a big tent and persuasion rather than slamming people who are to varying degrees pro choice and using politics of fear and division.Contraception and using condoms during sex are far preferable to abortion in my belief...hate dogmatism of any kind.Very anti-authoritarian.

I am the one Communist in the mix. Seeing the wealthiest 2% of America controlling 25% of resources, while they receive needless tax breaks makes me see that overabundance just leads to insatiable greed. In the aftermath of the mortgage debacle that was created by Wall Street, millions of Americans have experienced unemployment and foreclosure...many millions more have seen their real estate equity and value shrink. The system bails out the assholes whose unbridled greed creates the mess, and the common man is left to tread water as best he can. In CA, the greedy pigs that run the U of CA system are suing because the pension applicable part of their income is capped at 245K...and 200 of them make MORE than that! Redistribute the wealth based on need, not greed!!!!

Redistribute the wealth based on need, not greed!!!!

Frequently, a vast number of the people hollering that phrase are using need to hide their greed.

BTW, here's an approach to dealing with that 2% having so much of the wealth:

replace any (including the absence of) an inheritance tax with a stipulation that no one bequest, save one bestowing the family home, can be more than 1/2($1 million)(minimum wage).

Sit down and calculate just how many heirs Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, et al would have to find.

I personally favor " Intellectual Autocracy". I.e the government form I just made up =).
But I'm more moderate on most issues.

I voted "no answer" because I'm a bit of a mixture.

Socially I'm both Liberal in the American sense of the word as well as Conservative: I believe abortion should be legal (and rare) and am in favour of gay marriage, but I also believe in some very traditional family values. Fiscally I am both Liberal in the European sense and Statist: I want transport, health and education to be provided by a government we can vote out if they fail, but my taxes should not be used to subsidize authors, magazines, beach resorts, banks and coffeeshops. Finally, I've already voted for Ecologists and Nationalists over the past few years. I guess I'm a swing voter.

But I'll call myself a Liberal for as long as the word has a negative connotation on both sides of the Pond.

I voted Fascist, something which race politics has absolutely nothing to do with.

My ideal is that of a Meritocracy, with administrators being placed based on their talent, as opposed to a lack of morals and ethics as we currently experience. Harsh as it may seem, any system in which decisions are based on the feelings of the masses will inevitably fall into insolvency.

Our nation currently has the emotional capacity of a five year old. We are about to throw a temper-tantrum, because nobody has never told us we can't have something, or that we actually have to pay for it. As such our entire political process is based around who can promise the most, knowing that they will never be capable of delivering. The only impediment to an elected official's career is a sense of ethics.

The thing about my political beliefs, however, is that they are what I like to call a 'pure' ideology, much like Marxism, Classical Greek Democracy, and Anarco-capitalism. Much like some other posters have commented on this board, you cannot take a culture and change it overnight. The changes that could be made to move our society to such a system must be made gradually, and even then the 'textbook' definition of the political system cannot ever be implemented. Much like some other posters have commented on this board, you cannot take a culture and change it overnight.

Harsh as it may seem, any system in which decisions are based on the feelings of the masses will inevitably fall into insolvency.

And by historical fact, they get that way much faster once women are allowed to vote.

This is why democracy is a dangerous tool. Autocracy is a dangerous tool. Any pure form of holding power is dangerous.

The Constitution's concept of checks and balances was good, but not enough.

Of course, the greatest problem with human government is that it's run by humans. The second greatest problem is that it is trying to govern humans.
