  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

While shopping yesterday, I crossed paths with a couple and she was wearing a black burka

While I don't understand why they would wear oppressive clothing or submit themselves to male dominance, I do accept that they have the religious right to do so. I can only conclude that the men are very insecure, and afraid of feminine intelligence. Also, many Christian men also want their wives to submit and wear modest clothing. If that is their thing, so be it.
Sadly, my eldest sister is one such Christian, and her husband is an uneducated, backward-looking man, whose fragility often mars his decisions. I guess it bears asking if the men submit in Islam as readily as the women, since the religion takes its name from that.

Khan is a Muslim but Sunak is a practising Hindu, a fact which many UK Muslims are not happy about considering that they despise Hindus almost as much as they hate Jews.

Yes, I was aware that Muslims participated in government in the UK, but my question was more to the point of the conservative Muslims, i.e., the ones whose wives wear burkas, do so? And, for that matter, do the wives? Do they join the PTA, the local study group, or a bowling league, or whatever the analogs of those are in Britain?

My bad
As an atheist all religions look the same :ROFLMAO:

Almost all the major attributes of Islam and Hinduism are strikingly different. The only way they can look the same is if they are being lumped together as "other," not dissimilar to how Germans regarded gays, Poles, Jews, and the mentally retarded. Once "other" becomes a euphemism for inferior, fifty shades of gray are the norm.

The 'games' have already begun.

There's already been violence on the streets of England between Muslims and Hindus, plus Muslim attacks on Jews. :(
Dutch Surinamese Hindustani have supported Geert Wilders against Islam, but I have never heard of any trouble between Muslims and Hindus in The Netherlands that wasn't crime related.

I think it’s bullshit - so is any orthodox religious beliefs - total bullshit this is not the 19th century-

Breaking news: Other cultures exist.
I live in an area with a high Muslim population. The majority of my neighbours in this block are Muslim. I see women in full burkas every day. I'm not a fan.

In order to explain why, I just began typing up the story of a very strange, aggressive, encounter that I had with a burka-clad woman and her husband in the lift (elevator) in this block a while back. But I can't be bothered with typing out lengthy posts these days. Anyway, this being JUB I decided to self-censor and delete it. I don't fancy being called a bigoted, racist, Islamophobe by the uber-left JUB hive-mind just for recounting a true tale. #-o

Shocking news: Other cultures exist.
We do have a great deal of freedoms here, for now, by comparison with others about it, both near and far. Sadly, I see too many whorishly embracing lies in our nation, on the right and the left, and becoming almost as stigmatized as the women in black.
One of the most basic components of freedom is to define it for one's self. That concept might escape the notice of those who are used to being the voice of authority over others.

To me, freedom is the right to wear your culture in public without people dissecting it like you're a frog in 5th grade. America feels very much a zoo where non-whites are the exhibit-- which isn't a stretch or a "cheap shot" because that was literally a thing a century ago.

Where I live, Leicester, we see every permutation of burkas on a daily basis
I do wonder what would happen if we treated them as invisible (as their keepers want them to be) and ignored them, walked into them, refused to interact with them
Counter-idea: act like a fucking adult and be civil

I'll admit that my first reaction was I don't like people wearing disguises out in public. It's no different than a man wearing a black ski mask into a bank or mini market. We may as well take down all the security cameras and forbid the use of cell phones for capturing those gotcha videos that everyone loves. Got who?

But millions of women paint themselves up to look like someone else every day. Bald men wear hats, and many men shave the whiskers from their faces.

And, I doubt that when many hardcore transvestites go out they look anything like their photo IDs.

I think it’s bullshit - so is any orthodox religious beliefs - total bullshit this is not the 19th century-

Why would religion be the marker of the 19th century any more than the 20th or 21st?

85% of the human population believes in a god or gods today. There has been much clamor that religion is a thing of the past, not supported by the evidence. In fact, the areas on the planet with the highest birth rates are also the most religious. That means religion is increasing, or will as those areas outstrip the less reproductive peoples.
