White Student Beaten On Bus, Crowd Cheers

A Belleville West High School (St. Louis, MO) student was beaten aboard a bus on the way to school Monday, and a police spokesman said the beating could be racially motivated.

The 17-year-old victim was white and the teen assailants were black. Police released a video of the beating, which shows the victim being punched repeatedly while other students on the bus gather to watch, some cheering. It doesn't appear that the victim did anything to provoke an attack and tried only to defend himself. Police said it all unfolded in a five-minute span.

Fire the driver for not calling the authorities to stop the beating...Then charge everyone who hit the guy with a hate crime...
 
Seems like a racist attack to me...
Didn't look like the guy did anything wrong, just that the black guy didn't want to sit next to a white guy?

Those punches look pretty brutal... I feel sorry for him.
 
Who'd have thought we'd live to see the day that hate crime legislation would be used against those for whom it was put in place to protect.

When I was a boy, my mother taught me that when I rode on a bus to give up my seat to my elders and move to another seat at the back of the bus. When I rode a bus to school, the driver told everyone to shift over to make room for other students as they boarded the bus, and she watched through the mirror to make sure that we did.

The fault lies with the driver for not taking action - he should have stopped the bus and took control of the situation, and failing that, he could have called the police to get the mob under control.

There's not much the school can do besides suspend them, and I have a feeling the kids involved won't mind; it'll just give them an excuse not to have to go to school. I hope the school uses the video to contact every parent or guardian of these kids to show them the video. Each parents' photos need to be published in the newspaper under the headline "My child is a school bully." The same thing needs to be printed on a bumper sticker and put on their cars, too. Maybe if the parents shamed enough, they will be motivated to improve their parenting skills and discipline the kids themselves.

As for the boy who was the target of the attack, I would think he could file a lawsuit against the board of education for not providing safe transportation to and from school. With a nice settlement, his parents could then afford to send him to a private school.
 
The bus driver and the white kids were outnumbered, theres not much they could have done.

They complain about living in ghettos but when you get a few individuals behaving this way and the rest of the community cheering them on is it any wonder why all the decent folks move away?

The assault is appalling.

The bus driver might well have been fearful for his own well being. The driver was also aware that the incident was being filmed. I am surprised that the assailants were either unaware of the camera, or in their blind fury, and ignorance chose to ignore the camera.

Apparently the police are processing the matter, so that justice may be served.

The newspaper article, also states:

He also said there had been no racial problems at the school and said that he wanted to talk further with police to determine why they believe race could have been a motivator in the fight. He also said the school will do everything possible to make sure students are safe, but he wouldn't elaborate.

If by "decent folk", you mean whites, you apparently missed the white guy in the back laughing along with the other kids while the other guy got beaten.

And, while you may have focused your attention on just the people in the back laughing their asses off like they think it's funny, you missed the front of the bus, where they were all appalled. White AND black.

I am hoping this doesn't get in the radar of Sharpton.

No, there are decent folks of every race and creed. Even middle class black people can't stand the ghettos. (off the top of my head, Chris Rock).

I sortof expected this typical response. The world is black and white when it comes to black men taking a beating from white men, or when white men won't sleep with black men, but the moment the tables are turned, the world turns grey.

I'm sure it's enough for a conviction. what could they possibly say that changes our view on this incident?
 
I'm sure this happens all the time, in both directions. Kids in school get beaten up a lot, usually for really stupid reasons. And apparently it's getting worse...
