  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Who doesn't know Abercrombie & Fitch here?

Well, I was making a point more than anything. I'm certain they sell some jeans into which some guys can squeeze (cutting off circulation to their manly sac).

But even A&F was firing employees who didn't fit their "image". Guys have to look the part to work there. Which means coming as close as possible to their recent music video campaigns of smooth-chested, 8 pak "gay" ideal athletic. They used only real employees from around the world.

And its not to say it isn't a nice goal or ideal to have but A&F in every mall in the USA? Its just not reality (as the closure of hundreds of their stores demonstrates).

According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control):

Body Measurements (Data are for the U.S.)

Measured average height, weight, and waist circumference for adults ages 20 years and over

Men:
Height (inches): 69.4
Weight (pounds): 194.7
Waist circumference (inches): 39.7

So even if A&F carries items UP to a size 36, they've technically lost out on most American guys at and after the age of 20 (on average). That's really limiting one's sales potential (which equals LO$$E$ galore as they're experiencing).

I guess that's what happens to a store in the USA that doesn't sell pants larger than a 30" waist.

When I was 27, I HAD a 29" waist. But I was STILL not hot enough to wear A&F.

Or maybe I was and just didn't know it.

But trends die. A&F was a trend all along. Mostly among cute boys at the clubs.
God, how I miss them....

(*S*)

Height and weight?

6'1 - 129/132 (I yo-yo a bit naturally). I've gone as low as 24" (usually in Rock and Republic jeans...and yes...that's women's once you get below 28.)

I work pretty hard to stay toned and ever since I had an eating disorder (treated and I'm fine) - I've still watched calories and such....not just to stay thin...but because higher fat/calorie contents also generally come along with cholesterol etc.

Statistics.... I'm pretty sure on average most American guys in their 20s and even 30s are not size 39. Besides, stores like AF are not intended for general market like walmart clothes or Big and Tall. AF is not the only brand that doesn't make clothes for XXXL crowd and those stores are not going out of business.

Well, I'm 5'9" 175lbs and 32-33 waist, so at 48 I'm doing pretty good.

It's actually hard to find a decent pair of Levis in my size that actually ARE 33, not 3 inches wider thanks to "vanity sizes".

Do you spend any time looking around? Statistics are what they are. The average is nearly 40 inches. That would mean that while a place like A&F can find itself customers with an average waist of, say, 32-inches, they are not even seeing the majority of American males coming through their stores.

And again, its not ME saying any of this. Its the CDC...and A&F's failing stores (by the hundreds) telling us all of this.

i wear a 32, that store is the one that always made me feel fat and out of shape....closing stores is what happens when you rely on ONE small part of a community to support you.

I was never really happy with their quality... seems like anything I ever bought there was starting to fray within months, and I'm pretty easy on my clothes in general.

That's what I always noticed, too. While they sold fashionable colors and cuts, the construction just wasn't there (for the price especially). They were always like cool shirts made really cheap.

All of those shirtless models out of work. They stood on their two feet outside those doors so professionally. :(

Ah shit. Now where am I going to get jeans?

:rotflmao: for real???? they were really doing it like that in america out of all places? how many people you know have a size 30 waist? that's the waist line of a child. surprised me that they were around for that long though especially with their shirts and clothing. it was really bland and plain jane. i would rather wear ugly ass fubu and tommy hilfinger.
No, he's kidding. They go up to at least a 36" waist.

Ugh, I hate Levis sizing.

Maybe they'd sell the cologne instead of using it as an air freshener.

I practically smelled like it after going in there for only 2 minutes with a friend who likes those things.

I can honestly say I've never even stepped foot inside an A&F store :?
Doesn't really sound like I'm missing anything though...

------------
The average waist size about 40 inches? really?
I wear a standard 32 for jeans, and always just assumed around 35 was average since Im kinda skinny

Hot, good-looking men are losing their jobs? I hate this cruel world!!!

Well, I like shopping there. *shrug*

We had an A&F in my city long, long time ago but it closed 7 years ago due to the overall mall's dwindling business.

I like their material (Hollister's too) and I try to find shirts that have the least amount of human advertising as possible.

That had a few decent styles and were definitely a teen or young adult market. I always cringe when i see the 35 yo gay guy at the club in A&F... it just isn't styled for an older market... I did like strolling past the store and they seemed to still do well in a few places.

I am gonna go out on a limb and say i am much more an A.E. customer for simple disposable clothing. I generally shop outdoors outfitters for my main clothing though.... Prana, Columbia, North face, and so on... those seem to cost about 35% more but the materials are high tech and the quality is through the roof... to the point most will replace their failed clothing if you mail it back.

Still I will miss the random eye candy when i go to the mall..... (last mall trip was four months ago) ... ok so it isnt a big deal... I wish all malls would go poof and disappear... the outdoor walking strip mall is the wave of the future....

For those who need a label on their chests or their asses to prove they have value, this will be devastating.

It's sad that people are losing their jobs.

Ummmm...A&F can suck s dick, though. Lol

yea sad that those minimum wage earners without benefits will be looking for other jobs.

until these large corporations start paying their employees decent salaries and giving them full time jobs more of this will be happening.
