  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

who failed University ?

Damnit Kev..

Thanks Telstra :D

Hmm. Might wanna ask sunshine. He does the same thing :D

But yeah.

>_> means, "Shit, crap, confusion, random, uncertainity, oops" or something like that.

T_T is similar.

This is why I'm glad I'm a Linguistics major. Don't have to worry about all those hard math and physics courses.

honestly, for most ppl at Ugrad level phy and chem seem to be the hardest to grasp beacuse mainly it's theroetical and not too much applications unless you're in like organic chem.. then the whole class will probably be based on your lab grades, but i found when a prof is teaching you something using theory rather than something obtainable/plausible to one's mind it makes the subject that much harder.
had a bad experiance of this is physics: elect/magnitism my prof i remember him still that ivy league little bastard, him and his cornell PhD, making life harder for everyone else.

i still think people have to pass the hard subjects for them to get a degree.
Otherwise don't give them a degree (in that particular field).

*not talking about art degrees (nothing hard about art).

I'm probably going to get lynched for this but I see no point in a piece of paper that costs about 100 k. I am no less intelligent then anyone I work for, and in some case more intelligent then members of my company, and I've always worked my way up from the bottom.

However, in answer to the question, no I didn't fail University, and of course, I never even went.

well, you made a right decision from the start.
Unlike uni dropouts .

They don't even know what they want to do.

I did fail a couple of courses, but my studies in the university were the best years of my life. :=D:

Maths and Physics are the hardest subjects at uni level, I dont blame anyone for failing them, Computer Science is also hard. If on the other hand, you were to fail an easy subject like Biology, Geography, or an arts degree, then shame on you.

I almost failed biology. If I was good at it, I could have become a university doctor performing physical exams on hot uni guys on athletic scholarships.;)

I'm still in the midst of completing my 4 year degree (I'm in 3rd year). For the most part I'm a high-achiever. I get sorta pissed when my marks fall below 80, so there's an almost non-existent risk that I'll ever fail a course (not to sound cocky lol). I'm studying Geography/Polisci/Urban Studies. If you put any effort you really can't fail. Having said that, earning a 4.0 in arts/humanities courses is one of the hardest things to do. At least here at U of T, a perfect mark generally starts at a 90%, and they work down from there. They like to keep the class averages around a C- (70-72%).

I passed University with Honours.

There are some jobs in which that "piece of paper" is an absolute necessity.

Out of interest, Telstra, what grade did you attain in English Language?

I never finished college--but it was not because of failure (I had a 3.8 average) I was supporting my mother, my sister, and myself and working 60 hours a week.

Exactly.

For instance, now that I know I want to be a teacher, I wont be able to do that, unless I return to school.

do you wheely wheely want to know?

I know a guy who took 6 years to get a piece of paper but after all that hard work he is now a fruit & vegetables seller (nothing to do with his education at all).

Honestly, many if not most people have a similar story. They never put what they actually studied at uni to actual use. Hell, how many people even remember most of what they learned at uni? Within a year or two of graduating most of the stuff has faded from memory. Whatever job they end up getting will require some sort of training because if it didn't even uni graduates wouldn't know what to do on the job half of the time.

The degree is often just padding, a symbol to potential employers that you're a hard worker and educated. Plus it gives you an advantage over competition. Well, it does until you're in competition with dozens of other people with the same degree. Then you just better hope you have more experience. If not, good luck.

I know General Practicioners (doctors) jobs are really easy (i think a nurse is MORE than good enough to do the job), it is just red tape really.

Utter, utter bollocks.

It is such a good job that you have about as much power as a Parish Council.

I would love to take the time out to point out how utterly incorrect you are, however I have to go to work shortly and I need to stay in a relatively good mood.

There is a world of difference between the work of Doctors and Nurses, it is nothing to do with "red tape" as you stupidly put it.

I suppose you believe that Air Hostesses can fly aeroplanes too?

I didn't so much fail Uni, more like it failed me: Lecturers not turning up, lecturers teaching out of date technologies and methodologies, lecturers learning the subject they will be teaching us a few weeks before they start teaching us! (Was a new course) Lecturers reading out Powerpoint presentations they got off the net which they don't understand etc etc.

I just got fed up, used my personal portfolio to get a job as a web developer and quit. And to top it all off I owe the Government lots of money for the privilege of learning nothing.

what i have noticed, the nurse can do most of the jobs, GP that is.
An experienced nurse is much better than a new inexperienced doctor !!!

In general health knowledge experience counts.
The nurse should be able to write some prescription drugs in my opionion.

To avoid confusion, please could people be aware of the difference between University and the new breed of NuLabour funded Ex-Polytechnic-NightSchool-former-Leisure-Centres such as Oxford Brookes "University", Thames-Valley "University" or "University" of Eastern Anglia (AKA University of Easy Access) etc.

Kins123 - did you go to the former or the latter?
