Yeah he's right, I have Office 2003 Professional and it works perfectly, 2007's interface is confusing as hell and plus it tends to lag up a bit so I went back to 2003.

Lagging? Really? Do you think maybe it's just an isolated incident on your end because mine has yet to lag. I agree the interface is a bit robust, but it you use it as much as I do, being a writer, you quickly get used to it.

Although, since I'm already so used to MS 2003, I wish I could use that but as it is my old software came preinstalled so I can't transfer it to the new computer.

Yeah, I noticed some lag on Office 2007 as well, and of course I just don't like it.

Two different computers then. That's interesting. I was just hesitant to add it to a list of Vista flaws because I have yet to encounter that particular problem and really hope I dont.

No, it happened the first time I used the program. It's no big deal. Office 2007 is suppose to be with Vista so it should work perfectly.

I just don't like the interface because it's way too confusing.

Not really a big problem, just that if you don't have a whole lot of RAM it could be some problems later, which is why I'm definitely going to upgrade my computer to at least 2GB.

But Gates said a long time ago that 640K ought to be enough for anyone. Actually last year he recanted ever saying it. Nevertheless us Mac guys found out a long time ago that usually the best ram configuration is to put the most in that the computer allows. On some boxes there is a slight speed advantage to putting in matched ram modules, like 2 one gig modules from the same manufacturer if your boxes capacity is 2 gig. I recently upgraded from 1.5 to 2 gigs on mine and there is a difference. Zero page outs/ins.
In other words if you want the fancy interface be prepared to install the memory. It's cheap anyway.
A funny anecdote. I went to print an excel spreadsheet which was quite small (under 50K document and got a message that their wasn't enough memory to print. My ass. That is when I ripped out anything on my computer that came from M$

Actually sheep - that error message is common enough. It usually is a print driver problem or a print spooler problem and not an MS issue - sorry

D'oh, OK. I hadn't seen it before and haven't seen it since therefore I assumed it was an M$ issue.

I remember having a printer that required more than 128MB of memory at the time of having my old computer it only had 112MB of memory so the printer was useless.

1GB seems to be enough for me with Vista. Right now I'm using 63% of it, when I used 45% of it with the same configuration in XP. It was using around 800MB at first, but then I went through msconfig and stopped everything that I don't want from running and it's great now.

It seems enough, but when you're a gamer you tend to want bigger things like a better video card and a big memory stick. Normal users who just play the regular games like the 3D chess they tend to not really care about buying more RAM.

Everyone will use Vista for something, if it's for browsing the Internet, Designing, or playing games.

I installed Vista Ultimate today on a partition on one of my hard drives (after disconnecting my boot drive so it wouldn't make any changes to it ).

Here are the results:
1. No sound (it's onboard on an Intel Pentium 4 mobo)
2. No ethernet card (linksys NC100)
3. Scanner isn't recognized.
4. Camera isn't recognized.
5. My new video card is incorrectly IDed as having 512 MB of ram when it's only a 256 MB card.
6. TV card doesn't work (ATI)

I was able to get sound to work, the drivers on the Intel mobo CD worked, but nothing else. I've tried downloading new drivers, but only the TV card had one for Vista. So I'm back on XP. it did look pretty though.

You can tell Vista to search for drivers and direct it to search the drive your XP installation is on (include subfolders). Once it's done one search all the rest will be faster. That was how I got most of my drivers without having to download them or find the CDs (and don't forget that your current XP drivers are probably quite up to date compared to the one's that came on the CD).

I too had to get Vista drivers for my Pinnacle TV USB stick.

Don't give up so easily mikey.

Pinnacle is shit, they don't even support Windows Vista 64bit systems when it comes to video capturing with Dazzle DVD Recorder.

Plus they have the shittiest Tech Support ever in the world!

I've gotten my network card installed and running. I had to use drivers for Win2000. I got another version of paradox working and it's all good now. thanks noelie. So i'll continue to test it out off and on for a bit and let ya know what i think. being asked thought if i'm wanting every little thing to run or install or whatever is going to get old fast. i'll have to look in the control panel and see if i can change those settings.

my windows experience is only 3.3 that seems low/bad. is it?

I have an intel mobo P4 2.6 ghz
2 gig of ram
256 mb agp video card (although vista insists on saying is a 512 mb card)
a 360, 320, and a 250 GB hard drive

As far as that asking us to do everything before they do it, that doesn't bother me because it makes me feel like my computer is safe. But of course I'm not so naiive I trust completely that it is, so I can see it getting old later as well. But you're right, you can turn it off. Not sure how but obviously you can.

You have similar specs to me so it's strange that our numbers are so different. In fact, your processor is faster than mine. Mines only 2GHZ.

i'm attaching a picture so you can see what the rest of my scores were. my processor is a celeron processor so that is probably why. from what i was reading on there after clicking what does the score mean and stuff it looked like it was out of 5, but then i had an above a 5 so i don't know.

Not really mine is a 3.0.
