"Repent, Harlequin!"
It is funny. I only used "necktie" because I figured people would comment if I just called it a tie.

It isn't nit-picking, it's a question of interest. I find it bizarre that people use the term "roadmap". Almost all maps show roads, so it's just called a map (unless some specific other document is called for). Similarly with "horseback-riding": riding is sufficient, as no other animals are commonly ridden, nor any part of them other than the back. You opened the thread asking about two distinctly different types of ties, too.
You did right. Nevermind the nitpicking. It never ends.
I've been ridden plenty of times.. . no other animals are commonly ridden, nor any part of them other than the back.
It's mendelevium, on the periodic table, named in honour of said table's creator. Is that the object pronoun that refers to the author or speaker, or the U.S. State of Maine?

That's just attention seeking LOL
If someone told me they were going riding I’d think motorcycle not horse. It isn't nit-picking, it's a question of interest. I find it bizarre that people use the term "roadmap". . . . or bicycle, or ATV, or snowmobile,. . .If someone told me they were going riding I’d think motorcycle not horse.
My Dad taught me how to tie a Windsor not back in the 1960s.
My father taught me how to tie a neck tie. I only know one way so I don't know what the name of the knot is. I have no idea how to tie a bow tie. If I ever wore one it must have been one that was already tied and set up as a clip-on.
