Science "is alway numbers" like democracy "is always a ballot box", or meteorology "is always profecy".

A crossover post.

Re: 2019 Coronavirus (COVID-19/SARS-CoV-2)

Wow. I suggested this 19 pages ago in the very first post and everyone shit their pants. Look at the numbers people, it's common sense. But also follow the $$. Who is getting richer and more powerful off of this situation?

The already rich and powerful of course. It's the [STRIKE]republican[/STRIKE] fascist way.

We're so bad at finding effective means of moderating life with the virus. My local grocer cut its hours from 24 to twelve. It just concentrates more people in the store at the same time. With restaurants shuttered, you'd think grocers would try to expand hours for the increased demand...but no. And of course the Starbucks there is packed with three or four employees in a 15-foot kiosk trying to keep up, mostly unmasked. No limits on number of customers allowed inside. There's a kid who wipes down all the carts and baskets, good. But the touch screens at the self-scan stations don't get much attention.

Ugh.

Good news! My neighbour is fine!
There is this lady living in front of me. I don't know her, never talked to her, but every day I admire the beautiful plants on her balcony. I hadn't seen her in weeks. And, twice, I saw a guy wearing a mask and gloves, taking care of some stuff in the appartment. I thought she was sick and isolated. I was afraid she might have died.
And just now she is back! I can't believe how happy I am.

^ ^ The grocer might be under a state mandate to limit the hours they are open, in an effort to not give folks an "excuse" to go out at night. Or, it could be a staffing or supply chain issue. These days, it's hard to tell. The conditions at Starbucks sound more like a company policy issue, or lack of "woke" management.

I would be very interested in hearing more about your efforts to transform your restaurant business model. Any progress on that front?

Wishing you all the best, because from what I can tell, You ROCK as a decent dude, "Z"! ..|

It's very kind of you to ask, Kyanimal, thank you. (*8*) In a time when so many are suffering, I hesitate to mention the negatives. Without disclosing too much possibly private information, the plan right now is to try to get from simply hemorrhaging cash to breaking even with less than 10% of normal staff. We'd hire everybody back, but there's just no money for that yet. A few of our former employees have straight up volunteered with little projects on site; I have no words. We will re-open for takeaway with limited hours, limited menu, though with possibly additional services and products. Barriers in place, contactless options, distance markings, reinforced and upgraded hygiene. We've expanded our website and social media program and have been reaching out to our regulars--who are the absolute best. I'm confident that we will have at least a trickle of folks at our door and curb. If we can just tread water long enough...

If the PPP or EIDL came through for us, it would help so much. Unfortunately, the distribution of those funds has been a shit-show with vile operators like Shake Shack making cash grabs while real small businesses go without. Once again, corporate giants screwing Main Street. The officials who wrote those guidelines, and the MFers who took advantage of them deserve pitchforks.

Shake Shack supposedly has given back the 10 mil. I know there are many others that should do the same.....*cough* Ruth's Chris *cough*

Let's hope enough people, who make it to November, remember that! I'll be doing my best to remind them, if I'm still here, for sure! :jab:

I have to commend you for what you are trying to do. Another JUBber, diagonally from you, on the opposite coast, is also working hard to take care of his employee peeps, as best he can. We're discovering we have more heroes in our midst than we've been aware of. :=D: ..| (group)

"Trickle down" has never worked. It's way past time to convert policy to "bubble up". That's the way it actually works, anyway. It's just been that those at the top generally refuse to prime the pump. They've been "working" hard against their own best interests, and all of ours, far longer than it's been good for any of us. #-o

(Virtual) HUGS!! (*8*)
