Why Are Babies So Adorable?

is your biological clock ticking?

99% of human babies look like weird little aliens to me until they reach toddler stage.

I never have the "cute" reaction when I see a baby. I don't care for kids in general, and whenever someone has told me that they're pregnant I have to fake excitement for their sake when I'm actually thinking: Well, there goes your life, see you in 18 years.
I know, I'm awful.

Ooooh!!! I think the exact same thing, especially when it's obvious that the baby was an accident.

Animal babies make me melt.

Human babies make me think of particulate skies, plastic oceans, carcinogenic soils.

are you on shrooms? ^^

and human babies are the most difficult to be portrayed realistically. Find a nice portrait painting of babies- nada..
Dolls? Dont even get me started -_-

Oh, they're TOTALLY adorable.

I just find them so precious. Like several of the posters in this thread--I just like holding them, playing with them, watching them "take in the world around them"...so to speak. If you watch them long enough, you can sort of see the world through their eyes. The crying can be annoying...but hey, they're babies. It's the only way they can communicate their needs with us.

I don't like children in general, but I love babies (newborn until a year or so).

It's true--I never wanted kids but when I see a baby or a puppy (unfortunately have same reaction to both lol) I turn to mush.

lol I'm with you on this.

Then might I suggest you step off the planet and make room for more?

I'm pretty sure little old me isn't stopping anyone from breeding as much as they want. Obviously, most people don't care about the impact their baby-making has on the world.

I'm not a baby/kid person.

I have 23 nieces/nephews, as infants they were all ugly, as are all infants (imo). As children they are noisy, destructive, expensive and an anchor to parental freedoms.

There are moments when they are cute or fun, but they are few and far between. I'd rather have a dog any day.

Oh but THIS is the nicest thing YOU have ever said, sixthson! :rotflmao: Or definitely one of my favorite quotes from ya. ;)

I think the response to kids is pretty mixed/even, even looking at this thread. I think the difference is that because your kids and the relationship in your life means so much to you that the negativity towards children tends to stick out more. There's plenty of positive here even in this thread.

I think relative indifference to the "charms" of kids/babies seems pretty typical in men period, especially single ones. It seems like all of my straight friends who are married or engaged are in tug of wars where their wives want them sooner and the guys want to put it off as long as possible.

yeah... obviously the reasons are understandable, but just about any time you see a "newborn" in tv/film, it's usually a baby that's like 6 months old at least.

I think it's admirable that some guys acknowledge their lack of desire for children/parenting. One has to be selfless and compassionate in order to be a good parent and obviously not everyone has those qualities. Better to not reproduce and decrease the surplus population that be abusive to that child.

Luckily some guys do and make absolutely awesome Dads. It's one of the hardest jobs in the world. I know. :D

I think for most people who have kids, they simply "take the plunge." It has almost nothing to do with sitting down and having a rational internal discussion about what kinds of parents they would make and how ready they are for it-- nearly everyone I know who is parents said something along the lines that, after a certain point, you have to just up and decide to do it because you'll never seem ready enough. And certainly most people seem to just regard having kids as some sort of expected part of anyone's life, and do not even question it.

I freely admit that I don't want kids, but your post here seems to imply that "good, then let the qualified people do it", when that's hardly the reality of what happens in the real world. There are probably a fantastic number of people out there who have kids and shouldn't have if they held themselves to some kind of serious scrutiny about how qualified and prepared they were to do it "well."

Exactly my point. Respect the decisions of those who recognize their limitations and do not reproduce. Not everyone is a perfect parent, but I'm sure some are way better than others.

People who have kids waste their life. I like to do what I want and when I want. If I want to go out with friends I don't want to have arrange a babysitter etc. I often feel sorry for people who claim their children are their lives. Pathétiqué. I also do not have the unconditional love gene. If I had a child and it pissed me off it would be off to the orphanage.
