I can see the point of view. However, if we were to be isolationists...we couldn't afford to do it on such a drastic scale as banning new immigration - it would mess with the population metric. (one of the main reasons that the D. Of State and INS have the quota set where it is).

Well that's not what modern India is like post-Mughal and European rule. Also, hijras (transgender) are only tolerated when they crash weddings because kicking them out is apparently bad luck and Hindus are very superstitious (even the "educated" ones are).

Actually, India was never a real country until 1947 when British left and made it one. Before South Asia was just tons of separate kingdoms and "India" was a word Western Europeans used to refer to all of South Asia and even Southeast Asia too.

Not really. Hindu culture is traditionally pretty liberal and promotes acceptance of other ideas. That's why practically everyone in Asia went there for refuge historically. When many Jews and Zoroastrians were hounded out of western Asia, they settled in India.

Because many Indians view kissing as a sexual act. It's bascially vaginal penetration of the face. Even I get uncomfortable when people kiss in public. I have been brought it with the mentality that kissing is just too sensual.

Don't confuse this with "Native Americans" which are the people who lived in North America prior to the arrival of the Europeans in the 1500s-1700s.

Referring to Native Americans as "Indians" is inaccurate, thanks to Christopher Columbus' mistake of thinking he went to India when he really landed in the Caribbean.

But, if you haven't noticed, many of them refer to themselves as Indians out of habit and it is a more convenient word. Ever hear of the American Indian Movement? It is not a slur and should not be turned into one. We all know that the Italian who discovered America and the Spaniards who looted and killed them so ruthlessly thought they were in the "Indies" for awhile, but the word is too deeply established to ignore it.
