I think I broke two thousand posts before I realized there was porn.

Yes, it has helped, immensely -- enough, in fact, that my doctor decided to start giving out the JUB "Coming Out" forum addy to guys he counsels!

I joined for the lighter side of life.
Most won't get it, but hell, I don't care.
 
I originally joined for the PORN...but I "discovered" the chat after about a week, and the Forums about another week later. About one more week in (i.e. around three weeks after I joined, or perhaps a month), I had left both the porn and the chat behind in the dust. And in the nearly seven years since, I haven't looked back...
 
This used to be a pic sharing site. I used to come here to look at all the pretty pictures ;) Then I realized what a cool community this was, and after lurking for some months, I finally joined.
 
When I joined, JUB seemed like the mecca of information across all fronts: Entertainment, current events, hot topics, health... Not to mention all the hot pic's in the amateur section. It seemed at the time like the go-to place for anything gay related I ever wanted to know across the board. It also seemed like a great place to have intelligent conversation(s) without it being based on hooking up, like Gay.com chat.

Now it too often feels like it's filled with socially inept miscreants, drama queens, middle school crushes/clicks, posers, and attention whores.

Not to say it's ALL bad, but I certainly don't see it the same as I did when I signed up.

I'm new to this particular forum but I would have to say your characterizations sounds like precisely what one would expect in virtually any large mostly/only-gay social group, particularly online.
 
I was a junior in highschool, and I was looking up porn, wound up on this site. I lurked around for YEARS, I was 23, when I finally joined in September of last year, had my account deleted in March of this year.. and came back this month, because I missed it so much.

Just as likely, the "novelty" of the site wears off. It's never the same two or three years later as it is when you first find it.

I was asked to elaborate on this.

The great majority of porn is clearly fake crap, which I regard as a waste of photons.

Of the small amount that isn't obviously fake crap, guys treat each other as objects, not as people, which is as disgusting in porn as it is from fundamentalists who regard us as objects -- the only difference is one regards people as objects to be used, the other as objects to be eliminated.

A very, very tiny amount of porn, then, is worth viewing. Since just a glance at the opening page when not coming in through the forums shows that such type is not likely to be found here, I nearly ditched the site. I stayed because it was possible to get to the forums without seeing all the trash.
