Why do movie makers have such low faith in humanity?

I wish. Clean(er) water, no Twitter, Big Macs were big, and there were pubes everywhere.

The difference here is that with Covid not everyone saw disaster, lacking the people dropping dead in the streets some didn’t see any reason to change behavior but give them a biblical plague and they’ll fall right into line.
By "biblical plague" meaning anything a televangelist would denounce: "homosexualism", "atheism", "feminism"...
Such people are already "fallen" right into line.

They will not see disaster that they can not feel, and they will not feel anything beyond their own prejudices. In an space of 3,796,742 sq mi, they will find it impossible to see any disaster that can not fit into the lines they have been already fed. They may be legal Americans, but they act like desert talibans.

I. You should see it now.
2. Are you comparing the Black Panthers to Twitter trolls?
3. Though they contained no potatoes, those mashed potatoes were goooood.
4. Funny, if I saw that photo for the first time today, I'd swear it was photoshopped.

The Tesla scene reads funnier than scary or apocalyptic... because it is intended to represent a momentous fallout, when it looks rather like one more Tesla incident, or your average gas-driven car crashing.
I saw it as a dig at Musk.

Please tell me you at least watched this far before switching to the Wiki version. Otherwise, from this point on, everything you say about cinema will be instantly disregarded.

1. That's why I posted how crappy it was back in wonderful 1973
2. No, just bad vibes to bad vibes.
3. For cancer cells?
4. This one has been photoshopped... original from 1974, though:

I consider it more like a sort of SNL spoof: daily Tesla news, besides his own statements, are a constant dig at Musk.

As I said, I went straight to the ending... well, I may have also watched whatever was previewed in The Graham Norton...

That last line of yours instantly disqualifies anything you might attempt to say about cinema, even as a joke.

The Obama's made a movie? Puhleeze. How's making that Presidential Library project going?

Anyway, I'm of the mind that 80% of anything on Netflix made for Netflix is propaganda. Ditto for any other stream you pay for. That you pay for it as a bonus to someone.

That kitten is so cute!

Always one step ahead of me. How do you do it??

And if you're as old as you say you are, when those 70's pictures were taken you had just barely escaped being wiped up with an old sock.

So..?

I counted on kitten to make my posts more palatable

Michelle and Barrack Obama just ticked off another box on their bucket list by producing a movie called Leave the World Behind.

It's about a cyber attack that kills off the power grid and all electronic communications. It's suppose to be an apocalyptic movie.

So, I just saw it. Power goes out. Internet and TV go out. Cell phones not working. And people are pointing guns at each other 1 day after power goes out. WTF?

We had our power go out a few months ago for a day. Our neighbor with a Trump flag DID NOT point a gun at me when I went over to ask him if he knew anything.

I absolutely refuse to believe that our civilization is so fragile that after 1 day of power outage people are already in post apocalyptic survival mode. I refuse to believe all of a sudden we are all gonna kill and rape and plunder because the power went out for a day.

I'm not just talking about this movie. There are many movies like this. There was a post apocalyptic movie I saw not too long ago where 1 month after world wide power outage there are bands of cannibals roaming around. Again, wtf?
Yeah, with the highest gun violence rate on the planet, increasingly violent and vitriolic political landscape, racial and socio-economic tensions, hell, even college sports rivalries, it's OBVIOUS that if the power grid goes out we'll all immediately hold hands and start singing Kum Ba Ya. We Americans are world-renowned for our ability to maintain peace in adversity and there's nothing we love more than embracing and sharing with people who are different from us.

Oh well, I'm just gonna set up a tent for this year's Black Friday, I'd rather camp out early to avoid all the stabbings.

Haven’t you seen how people act when a snowstorm is predicted that they’re going to get more than an inch? They’ll grab milk and bread out of each others hands and tear a grocery store apart because their little world is going to be inconvenienced for a few days.
Right. This thread feels like a rightwing propaganda piece. "MY MAGA NEIGHBOR WAS SO COOL, HE INVITED ME IN FOR HOT COCOA AND SAID IF I NEEDED A THERAPIST HE WAS ALL EARS. HE LISTENED TO ME ALL NIGHT WHILE SEWING A QUILT FOR THE ORPHANAGE."

Oh yeah, something something disaster movie something something.

Ethan Hawke looks like he sleeps in a kiln.

He sleeps inside me

Sincerely,
Mrs Ethan Hawke
When he was just starting out, Ethan Hawke used to work at an ice cream shop in Princeton, NJ called Thomas Sweets. My friend and I would always go in around dinnertime because it was slow at that hour and he would banter with us. I don't ever remember him mentioning you, though.

I think your question should not have been, "Why do moviemakers have such low faith in humanity" but "Why do the Obamas have such low faith in humanity"? Mr. and Mrs. Obama were, after all, the producers of the film. I haven't seen the movie--nor do I care to--but I assume the movie was not set in the part of Martha's Vineyard where they have a house, and where their well-heeled, right-thinking--largely black--neighbors live. (Perhaps it could be set in MV where the townies--that is, the servants live--but we know it wasn't.) Nor would it be set in Hancock Park in Los Angeles, where Netflix co-chairman Ted Sarandos (whose largesse has enriched Harry and Meghan) lives with his heiress wife in one of the great houses of Southern California. These people have great faith in others of their kith and kin, class and political orientation, but the rest of us, well, not so much. Then again, perhaps it's not so much low faith in humanity, but the overwhelming need to find people to look down upon. Snobbery.

Better, as I previously posted, see The Boys in the Bus, about a group of poor young men during the Depression who came together and triumphed.

Gonna be honest with you, I'm not reading any of that. I've dealt with r*****s enough that I could literally be a human predictive text expert and write your posts for you. Anyway, select the appropriate response to whatever this is:
A) I'm sorry that happened to you
B) I'm so excited for you! (y)
C) My, that is QUITE the conundrum
D) Well, you know what you have to do
E) OH. NO. SHE. DI. INT. :bartshock
