Why do people do drugs?

For your inspiration:

Reality is a crutch for people who can't cope with drugs. ~Lily Tomlin

In the 1960s, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird, and people take Prozac to make it normal. ~Author Unknown

Thou hast the keys of Paradise, oh, just, subtle, and mighty opium! ~Thomas De Quincey, Confessions of an English Opium-Eater, Part II

We cannot expect people to have respect for law and order until we teach respect to those we have entrusted to enforce those laws.

- Hunter S. Thompson

Annual drug deaths: tobacco: 395,000, alcohol: 125,000, 'legal' drugs: 38,000, illegal drug overdoses: 5,200, marijuana: 0. Considering government subsidies of tobacco, just what is our government protecting us from in the drug war?

- William A. Turnbow

I am glad someone remembers the original question!(*8*)

Back on topic:

Using those drugs can be a wonderful experience. I'm glad I did it, because it taught me things about the world I would never have dreamed of otherwise, but at the same time I find the risk of regular drug use simply to high.
But, like I said before, I wouldn't recommend it to others, because there is a lot that can go wrong, and you won't see it coming. And you will pay, you always pay.

That old chestnut

'Dont do as I do, do as I say'

are you on a mission to change minds and eradicate drug use or are you asking for opinions

cause this is beginning to look like a cause to me

D-Uh! Coz everyone else does it!

Here's me taking my first line of coke aged 18 - cute huh?

You know...I can understand why people do drugs...more power too them, not my cup of tea mind you. I get my highs just picturing Mr. Tennant or Mr. Barrowman naked.

BUT I really have to draw the line on using a toilet as a cutting table for your drugs Noni! :P

Course I will believe that you in the picture, when the doctor shows up in his blue box to take me on a trip of a lifetime!

LOL

The I NEED TO KNOW! thread reminded me of another reason. I used to see music when on drugs.
That, and It opens doors in your mind that can never be closed. Now doesn´t that sound like fun?!

isnt there a specific disorder liek that

people taste things they see and see things they hear?

the senses get crossed up in the brain somehow

^
I 'see' music without the use of drugs.

Edit: It's certainly not a 'disorder' (whatever that means these days).

its a neurologic thing

your brain is cross wired and you smell tastes and taste smells

stuff like that

geeez

now i have to look it up

lol

Well, personally I don't consider it to be a 'disorder'; it's always seemed more like an enhanced level of non-material/physical awareness to me. :D

PS.' Cross-wired'. What a strangely reductionist view of the brain/mind/spirit.

Edit: the phenomenon is apparently called 'synaesthesia' (or 'synesthesia', US spelling).

Almost everything can be chemically induced by 'halucinogenic drugs or something'; religious/spiritual experiences, beliefs, and feelings of 'god-consciousness' being the most easily induced, apparently.

Interesting, yes? :D

we both know how i feel about spiritual experiences

more than interesting i would say

have you ever read teresa of avillas seven interior castles of the soul?

she was quite ahead of her time

Yes, but you probably don't know how I (really) feel about spiritual experiences. ;)

have you ever read teresa of avillas seven interior castles of the soul?
Yes I have, but it was more than 20 years ago, and I have a very poor memory. #-o

she was quite ahead of her time
From what little I remember at the moment, she certainly was. ..|

PS. Please note my use of the word 'apparently' in my previous post. ;)

This thread has been a great read. Thanks to all who participated.

No- just asked the question.
I appreciate there are many reasons why people choose to use drugs- I have used alcohol due to being given it by a parent- peer pressure- out of choice- enjoyment- times of depression- to have fun with friends- to get unconcious- just for a drink- I smoked due to peer pressure- hated it dont any more- used cannabis twice- the first time to see what happened the second when i was drunk and it nearly made me throw.
I dont think drug users are idiots- may be putting a picture of yourself on the net doing it is stupid- even if the pic on this thread isnt the person who posted it- the person who put it on the net is an idiot and snorting off a toilet seat....well not brain of Britain.

People do drugs because they're fun. Same reason cats eat catnhip and dogs drink beer if you let them. There's even something that cows get high off, although I can't remember what it is right now, I'm too stoned.

I appreciate some of the reasons people use drugs- just putting a picture of yourself on the internet- like forever- you cant take it off- is just High scale idiocy. But then again I suppose being proud of your drug taking takes balls.
Just hope he makes his mum proud.

The forum asked a question "why do you do drugs," and people have replied to it. You sit here and them idiots for giving their experience/reasons? Shut up, you are the ONLY person judging people. Read their answers and deal without being an annoying twat. People are who they are, why do you care if they post their pictures/experiences with it?

As for being proud of doing drugs... I'm not proud or ashamed of doing drugs, it just IS a thing I do. Just like me being gay, not proud or ashamed, it just is.

My two cents.

Apologies, never meant to lash out at you dodo. I just got home from work and a coworker and I were having a very similar conversation (debate...), so I was still carrying the dialog between us home.

Granted, putting a picture of yourself snorting a line on a toilet seat isn't exactly Vogue material, he was just giving the forum his experience, and it sucks to see people judge others because of their answers.
