I so don't get this kind of reasoning... To me, this makes just about as much sense as saying that straight people should only want the marriage with the 2.4 kids and the house with the white picket fence etc, because anything else is not acceptable as a heterosexual "lifestyle".
We are for the most part introduced to and indoctrinated into heteronormativity pretty much from birth, and it usually doesn't even occur to people to question their upbringing. If they did we'd probably have a lot more bisexuals, a lot less organized religion and a lot fewer houses with white picket fences, but since they don't, i don't really see what the big surprise is.
The average person theoretically exists in an average world, somewhere along the bell curve or Normal Distribution. If 95% of people fall within that range, as they are predicted to do along the bell curve, this is what makes this sort of thing normal.
We're all the same species; within a given society (or nation, or religion or whatever subgroup you want to highlight) those of us in related subgroups should behave similarly ie follow the normal distribution. This is the basis of the 2.4 children etc etc etc.
I know we like to think we're all better than animals with their base instincts and highly uncivilised behaviour, but really we're not. To a point our behaviour is as predictable as theirs is.
