Why Do We Love Serial Killers ?

Actually this is a very good observation.

It is true we are fascinated by serial killers, I would not say though we are sexually attracted by them.
Being fascinated by them doesn't necessarily mean you want to bed them, or even like them.

I personally don't like boring. Boring kills me.
I always surround myself with interesting slightly crazy people, from any walk of life.
I don't make distinctions between good or bad people, I am not a judgmental person by nature.

People are not born bad, not they are born junkies or violent.
I am interested in getting into those people head and understand the reasons why they became who they are.
Serial killers are the extreme example of such people.
Tormented individuals who had a rough upbringing and suddenly flip.
Understanding what's wrong with this people is like a crash course in human psychology, that's why we are "attracted" by them.

I thought that was the whole point of sociopaths; that they were in fact born bad. What studies are concerned with are the events leading up to the collapse of the inhibitions that controlled their desires to harm others.

If you met more than 10 serial killers and know they were, how are you even alive?
Simple..... They no longer are. Do I really have to do your thinking for you?

What the hell are you doing hanging around with so many murderers!
I never said I was hanging out with them, only that I've met them. Why don't you learn how to read and understand, instead of always tripping over yourself shoving your foot in your mouth after stepping in your own shit??????? #-o ..|

One, drop your shitty attitude that you have for no reason. The attitude that you have makes it questionable that none of these killers got to you.

I questioned you because I think it is bullshit but expected the kind of response you gave. Anyone making that kind of post is looking for a response, who the hell only met 10 or more serial killers, knows they are retired and presumably never reported anything to the authorities?

Who will play you in the movie?

No idea, it'd need to be someone who is devastatingly handsome and very modest about it.

A prison guard, federal investigator or a forensics psychologist might have met 10 serial killers....but the chance of anyone else having this exposure would be nil.

From Google, John Douglas, a former chief of the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit and author of "Mind Hunter," says, "A very conservative estimate is that there are between 35 and 50 active serial killers in the United States" at any given time.

"A serial killer is a person who murders three or more people, usually due to abnormal psychological gratification, with the murders taking place over more than a month and including a significant break (a "cooling off period") between them." Google definition.

I knew this from watching too many episodes of Profiler.

Mate, claim down. Hanging out, meeting - it ain't that different. The question still stands - how did you get to meeting so many killers?

Well, some serial killers doesn't mean all though. There's like 100 of serial killers that basically never get media hype for whatever reason so no one cares about them except for the people that are into that shit

Fun serial killer quiz, what sort of serial killer are you.

My result.

What Kind of Serial Killer Would You Be?
Your Result: Organized and Mission-Oriented

You're a planner. You'd carefully plot each murder, and carry it out methodically. You'll kill them in one location and move them to another later, and you'll study up your forensic science. The good news is, you're much harder to catch. You'll have a specific reason to kill. You'll target a specific group, like prostitutes or members of a minority, and you'll believe their deaths are justified on the grounds that you're "cleansing" the earth of that particular kind of people. You'll think you're helping society.

When I was a graduate student, and living in London, I knew Michele Lupo very well...socially...I never bedded him, despite finding him compellingly attractive.....In no way would I have tagged him as a potential serial murderer. I had completed my post graduate work in Italy, returning to my home island of Rhodes where by chance I noticed his face staring out at me from a UK newspaper on sale at a kiosk. The revelations shocked me beyond belief. In his particular case he flipped his lid after being diagnosed HIV positive, and then chose to seek revenge on several of his tricks, Unsolved murders in Paris, Berlin, and Amsterdam are traceable to Lupo, for his part time work as a rent boy assisted him to travel extensively beyond London.

I thought that was the whole point of sociopaths; that they were in fact born bad. What studies are concerned with are the events leading up to the collapse of the inhibitions that controlled their desires to harm others.

People are not born with the sociopath gene.
People with this problem had bad shit happening to them when they were really young which undermined their ability to interact with people and feel any empathy.

A fascinating case is that of Loeb And Leopold, diagnosed with antisocial disorder but with unusual history. Both outside the mainstream with genius IQs, far ahead of their peers in school, extremely wealthy with servants including nannies, and Jewish at a time when there was more ostracism. Leopold -and probably Loeb was gay while Loeb had an obsession with being a master criminal. They agreed that Leopold would follow Loeb in crime and in return, Loeb would allow frottage by Leopold. Loeb claimed to be straight but selected male oriented crimes; several burglaries of fraternity houses and finally the murder of Bobby Franks for no reason, without compunction and apparently without ever remorse for the boy. Police suspected that they also had castrated another young man. Loeb was slashed to death in prison by an inmate who claimed Loeb propositioned him.
They were not serial killers but Loeb at least was obsessed with crime which probably would have continued.

"Love" is the wrong word.
Why do we "love" reading books, watching the news, watching sports ... etc then ?

"Why do we like to study serial killers?" is the right question.

https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/wicked-deeds/201401/how-tell-sociopath-psychopath
This link is a very good short read on the subject, the page has other links as well.

"The cause of psychopathy is different than the cause of sociopathy (1). It is believed that psychopathy is the largely the result of “nature” (genetics) while sociopathy is more likely the result of “nurture” (environment)."

It is still a theory, those studies are based on adult subjects.
There is not actual scientific proof that psychopaths are born with a defective brain.
When you grow up your brain change as well, like the rest of your body, and what happens in people during their childhood might influence the development of the brain.
If you play basketball as a kid, chances are you will grow taller than people who don't.
The brain does the same, it reacts and shape itself adapting to the environment around you.

Mate, claim down. Hanging out, meeting - it ain't that different. The question still stands - how did you get to meeting so many killers?

1) I am calm. Just simply asking a question that needed to be asked.......

2) Meeting is quite a bit different than hanging out with a person. Meeting infers just that...... Meeting. As in walking down the street and crossing paths with, or being introduced to the individual..... That is meeting someone (not meeting up with, which is quite different). Hanging out with implies some level of friendship as you are actually spending time with the person. The two are not the same, unless a dinghy is comparable to a luxury yacht in your vocabulary?
