Why Does America Try Ghetto Up Classic Artists?

Um....Pop music IS real music.

I guess different people have different definitions of music. I am not pleased with Madonna's hard Candy as it was a ploy to appeal to mindless teens who don't know what music is. They hear a big beat and they think oh this is cool. Or the drunks in the clubs/gay bars. Confessions i give credit to, because after seeing her live and knowing it wasn't lip sung, I developed respect for her. Didn't see the recent tour in person but if it does come to DVD I will be able to tell and judge from there if her vocal ability is still strong.

SOME pop is true talent. Britney Spears isn't. Have you seen clips from the circus tour? Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, and Jordin Sparks are some of the few current pop artists who can really sing well. There are other artists that aren't my style and type, but they still have talent. Rihanna is "OK" but her music videos... just.. no.

It depends on what you think music means, and what the purpose of its existence is. If you think music means it just sounds good WITHOUT knowing how that sound got onto the compact disc/vinyl lp, then you have a distorted view of music. People like Britney spears don't do anything. She sings horribly into a studio microphone.... then the studio "magicians" alter her voice, add fake musical tones to immitate instruments when none are being used, slap her name and some photoshopped pictures on the album cover.... and voila All The Boys In The Center Of The Ring Just Like A Circus. :p

Just out of curiosity, what does the term 'ghetto' mean in the context of music?

a DEGRADING stereotype of an african american (That's MY opinion and that's what I get for openly discussing my opinion which I feel is an educated statement. Not Saying I am correct and that no other opinion matters, its just MY opinion.) Example Afro-Man BECAUSE I GOT HIGH portrayed a black american as a drug addict whose life failed miserably. Now some might argue with that because they themselves smoke weed and they might scream at me.... so bad example. I'm too tired to make a big list. Just like alot of heavy metal makes the younger white generation look bad when they portray white people worshiping the devil or cutting themself to some lame "emo wanna be" rock that the band recorded in someone's basement/garage. I think if some artists portrayed the "ghetto" stereotype to get a message across and try to explain the hardships of discrimination, many wouldn't care. But seeing as how its over-done, we know its done just to make sales and to degrade one's own outlook on themselves. I'm TIRED of hearing how a black person being ghetto means they are proud to be black. NO. If I'm white... that doesn't mean I have to be a stuck up prep and have a mom who reads the bible and orders useless shit off of QBC. Whatever. I hate labels. Because they generalize. I have met black people who come across as thuggish and say they are a proud "nigga." Not only do I find that disrespectful towards one's own self, its ridiculous. I know people have their own ways of living and styles, but do some research before you make a statement which only makes an ass of yourself. They say its an ok word to say, but it only gives OTHER people a right to call them that. It's like women who say whats up bitch.. and when a man says it, she goes crazy on him

You mean the DVD, where they dub and autotune vocals to make them sound better and more audible for the DVD? You can't make a fair assumption of vocals from a DVD because they're way over produced.

Yeah you're right music is in the ear of the beholder.

And I agree with you on all the Britney shit.

Exactly everyone has their own taste. Some don't like Mariah Carey But I do. I once heard her sing Hero Live and it sounded SO CLOSE to the original recording I almost shit myself. There was NO lip-singing involved. That's talent

You're right, But I did see the confessions tour in person and it was close to the DVD audio. I don't really think her voice will change much in just two years, though. Me seeing Britney Spears in person years back was enough to make me wanna vomit. It was so terrible because you KNOW that she was just moving her lips to a recording. She needs to get the fuck outta the media until she can sing a god damn fucking song without moving her lips. And it better sound pretty damn good. Britney fans wonder why she gets so much shit but they don't understand the obvious reasons. Jesus my MOM could do that and have a #1 hit if she had the right technology.

You'd be surprised. Look at Celine, Mariah, Whitney...all the powerhouses. Their voices changed what seemed like over night. I'd rather someone who's dancing around lipsync, than sound vocally terrible. Britney fans know when they go to her show, she's gonna lipsync. So people hating on her for it isn't going to change a thing. Madonna sounds horrific live, although she has her moments. She has about as good a voice as Britney, but Madonna just chooses to sing live.

I think some beg to differ when your opinion when you say Madonna has the same voice as britney. I will admit Madonna's voice isn't what it used to be. I feel it was strongest 1994-2003. (Best Live track, Mother And Father / Re-Invention Tour)

Actually I don't wanna see someone dance around and lip sing. Most people that are looking for talent will tell you that. How is that talent. If you are a talented dancer then I can see the talent in THAT as you lip sing... but I don't see Britney dancing too much on stage. She gets a bunch of hot dancers around her to grasp the attention of the audience.

All singers use some technology in the studio... it becomes a problem when they use too much of it to where its not their voice at ALL anymore. Example Fleetwood Mac sounded different live... but at least it still sounded good. A Live concert is a chance to hear their vocal ability. Of course it should be DIFFERENT and not sound like the cd/lp but it shouldn't be FAKED.

Considering my favorite songs by her are Take A Bow and You'll See, I'll agree to that. But that still doesn't mean s he sounded good. She never really had a "strong" voice, well, not in my opinion anyway, and she sounds just as bad live as Britney does.

Well, that's you. A lot of people don't care. Nobody has ever thought she was a great singer. She has performance mastery on her side, and people go to see the spectacle, not the vocal ability. And until you realize that, you'll never understand why so many people love Britney. Look at J.Lo. Terrible live voice...but she has great performance skill.

And when Britney's song comes on the radio, you know its her. Why? Because it sounds like HER VOICE. No amount of studio magic can take away her distinct sound. Its not like she walks in and burps into the mic, and it becomes a song....although that would be sweeeet.
