Um....Pop music IS real music.
I guess different people have different definitions of music. I am not pleased with Madonna's hard Candy as it was a ploy to appeal to mindless teens who don't know what music is. They hear a big beat and they think oh this is cool. Or the drunks in the clubs/gay bars. Confessions i give credit to, because after seeing her live and knowing it wasn't lip sung, I developed respect for her. Didn't see the recent tour in person but if it does come to DVD I will be able to tell and judge from there if her vocal ability is still strong.
SOME pop is true talent. Britney Spears isn't. Have you seen clips from the circus tour? Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, and Jordin Sparks are some of the few current pop artists who can really sing well. There are other artists that aren't my style and type, but they still have talent. Rihanna is "OK" but her music videos... just.. no.
It depends on what you think music means, and what the purpose of its existence is. If you think music means it just sounds good WITHOUT knowing how that sound got onto the compact disc/vinyl lp, then you have a distorted view of music. People like Britney spears don't do anything. She sings horribly into a studio microphone.... then the studio "magicians" alter her voice, add fake musical tones to immitate instruments when none are being used, slap her name and some photoshopped pictures on the album cover.... and voila All The Boys In The Center Of The Ring Just Like A Circus.
