Your argument is that 37% of US Presidents lived older than John McCain? Sounds like bad odds to me. How many of the 16 had recurrent cancer, history of heart disease and had been POWs for over 5 years?

The overall point has nothing to do with Bill Clinton or any other US President. If elected, John McCain will be the oldest man EVER to be inaugurated as US President. His health is a matter of national concern, and he owes it to his nation to be completely open about his health and medical history.

And he also owes it to his nation to have a VP nominee with substantive credentials to take on the role of President if he becomes incapacitated.

Average life expectancy means a lot. On average, today, an American male can expect to live 74 years. Some more, some less, but on average, 74 years.

It's erroneous for you to think that being President does anything to extend a person's longevity. Those 16 Presidents you cited had the luck to beat the odds. And, as I and many others see it, McCain's history quite naturally raises the concern of whether he'll live-out his term should he be elected.

I DID NOT USE IT AS A WEAPON AGAINST MCCAIN!!!!!

I stated the sad truth that he is old, he has had often LETHAL diseases several times within his life, and that he was in VIETNAM from which the majority of soldiers returned either dead or broken in some way. I'd hate to see the heartless son of a bitch who could go through that and come out in one piece.

chance, might I just mention that MANY Republicans have used, which was recorded by journalists and/or the beautiful thing called the 'Video Camera' McCain's time within Vietnam, most especially his time as a POW, as an excuse for his flops.

And there is no right for anyone to discriminate, and we are not doing that. We are pointing out what people tend not to admit : POLITICIANS DIE JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE and that : MCCAIN IS FAR MORE LIKELY TO DIE WHILE IN OFFICE THEN OBAMA.

McCain's age is NOT a "side issue" to this thread, which is about asking why anyone cares about the VP race. It is, in fact, the exact answer to the thread's question. We care about the nomination of that evil, fundie nutjob because McCain's age and health make it WAY TOO LIKELY that he could die in office and make that ignorant Alaskan horror the President of the United States, which would be a catastrophe for the entire world.

Oh there is a potential Fascist posting in this thread, but it isn't me; it's Chance1, who characterizes Obama's race as equivilent to McCain's age and health. Yet McCain's age and health DO reflect on his ability to hold, execute, and survive the office. Obama's race is relevant only to racial bigots (Like, say, Nazis), and in no way impacts his fitness for office. Why, I wonder, does Chance1 think Obama's race is something that can be used against him, unless HE thinks it's a bad thing?

The conservatives are trying to make McCain's age and health "off-limits" because there's no way to answer the fact that he is physically unfit for office. So they say we're bad for bringing it up. But they don't get to determine the debate. This isn't one of Bush's "Town Halls" where everyone is carefully vetted beforehand to make sure they won't ask anything that points out how evil they are.

Obama's race isn't "off limits" either; it's merely irrelevant. McCain's age is not irrelevant at all.
