This is Kim Davis:

She's the County Clerk in Rowan County, Kentucky. She has been denying marriage licences to same-sex couples.

Citing her religious objections, Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis has refused to issue any marriage licenses since the Supreme Court in June ruled that same-sex couples had the right to marry under the U.S. Constitution.

On Monday the same court rejected Davis' request for an emergency order allowing her to deny marriage licenses to same-sex couples while she appeals a federal judge's order requiring her to issue them.

Eight people filed a federal lawsuit against Davis in July challenging her office's policy of not issuing marriage licenses to any couples – gay or straight.

The couples on Tuesday filed a motion asking U.S. District Judge David Bunning to hold Davis in contempt of court, seeking fines but no jail time for the clerk. They also filed a motion asking the judge to clarify that Davis must issue licenses to everybody, not just the four couples in the case.

If she she is unable to do her job on 'religious' grounds she should be booted out; she is clearly unfit for office on grounds of mental instability. They need to elect someone more professional.

Any religion is merely a freely-chosen belief system. There is no reason to give her bigotry any more respect or credence than that of a follower of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, Invisible Teapot, Pink Unicorn, or any other made up belief. What if she had said that she was a member of the KKK and thus unable to perform mixed-race marriages? No sane person would dream of taking her seriously.

As stated she is a protected elected official and can't be fired. She will face the music on Thursday morning. I doubt a federal judge is going to take lightly to being ignored. I love all of her supporters standing on the sides, where are they all going to be when she is on her way to jail. I personally can't wait to see her being led out of the building in handcuffs...

Was she elected to her post before or after same-sex marriage was legalised? If the latter, I'd say she took the job with the intention of causing trouble. And what exactly are these "county clerks" that they have to be elected? Surely it's only an administrative post.

Hooded Rat's response #4 hit the nail on the head. She was elected to do a job, and her personal religious convictions should be just that, personal. They should have no place in her job performance. If she can't tolerate that in good conscience, she should resign.

After desegregation many school districts stopped schooling ALL students, regardless of their skin color. It's done as a sort of backhanded slap to equal rights. It didn't really work very well back then, and it won't work any better now. She's an idiot for even trying to pull this shit.

I certainly hope the courts will make an example of this case whether or not they will tolerate discrimination.
