  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

why don't all blacks support gays?

I agree the argument makes perfect sense. As a victim of oppression, a group like black people should be more sympathetic to other groups which are not considered equal.

But unfortunately the reality of the situation is as others have said not simply one where that is going to override religious or other cultural attitudes.

In a logical world, it wouldn't make sense for anyone to view gays in a negative way at all.

LOL! This thread is unbelievably ironic.

Black (as well as other non-white) gay men are still struggling for equal acceptance inside the gay community and you've got the balls to ask why don't Black people support gays?

While I won't bother picking apart the ignorance in the thread post-by-post relating to that fact; it's several reasons...none of which are very good, but:

People in glass houses got no business throwing stones.

Uhh. I'm happy to say that as a member of the white community, I did raise this point at the white people meeting last month...I think white gay people are idiots when they ignore people of other colours.

I don't get how they don't notice the sexiness all around them (which is not what equality is all about, but when you are talking about same sex love, then sexiness matters).

But I don't think we should say "Okay, I'll give you a pass on white gay racism, if you give us a pass on black homophobia."

No, that's enough stupid for everybody. Let's all throw stones. It will do us some good. Or at least let's all have a purse fight.

spot on. these things take time, but progress can be a constant process.

in a philosophical sense, yes. in a realistic sense, not at all. religion was forced on blacks for hundreds of years. that is engrained in black culture. so how does it make sense that they should be sympathetic towards something that their beliefs tell them is wrong?

so you admit there is no good reason for this prejudice to exist, yet are criticizing the asking of this question? we're all here to improve the situation, not throw rocks.

I think he has the right to criticize you on the situation because you are putting all black people in a box with this thread. You already put black people in a group as they all should have the same views, opinion, and values in life.

If you know that there is a diversity within Black people (which is a race not a nationality or an ethnic group) then this thread wouldn't be made.

Shit any 13 year old can see why Black people dont support gay rights it's the same fucking reason why any fucking ethnic group doesnt support gay rights.

I love how you single out black people like they the only minority group who doesnt support gay rights

It isn't their beliefs though. It is the beliefs forced on black for hundreds of years.

Oh yes, I haven't made not one valid argument against you and this thread since it began. I've just been in here shooting the breeze and talking about old times.

Just b/c you wish not to like it, accept it or understand it doesn't mean I haven't been in here relating to you how I feel about this lovely course of diatribe you've begun against blacks.

how many more times are you going to embarrass yourself by launching a malicious attack on my character with zero facts to support it? do you always just spout things out with nothing to support your claims?

MoePhoenix7, he asked a question about black people.

I seriously doubt he hates black people and I've seen nothing in this thread that would indicate that to me.

you should read the whole thread, not just the first and last lines.

the reason blacks are the topic is due to a) their role in the civil rights movement, coupled with b) their above average (70%) support of Proposition 8.

I also explained why the term "all blacks" was used, to omit "all" would imply there were no blacks in support of gays which is false.

he just likes to claim i'm against blacks since he has no valid arguments and instead of manning up and admitting it, he keeps puking up the same BS

Yes this is true. Religion has become a distinguishing feature of black culture in the uniqueness of its practice.

i have an idea! let's make thread after thread about how much we hate religion and all of its followers!

oh wait, we tried that already and it got us nowhere. ](*,)

I'm merely pointing out a recurring fact. White gay men are always griping out their rights, their equality, their treatment within society, etc. but don't give two shits about racism in their own oppressed group.

While all gay people regardless of race deserve the same freedoms as anybody else, it's funny to say "omg why don't blacks accept us?" when you don't fully accept them into your own community as of yet.

I dont get it

all blacks= all blacks

how does all blacks= some black??

you miss me with that shit

and just because a a certain group was involved in the civil right movement means what that every person involved in the civils movement has the same moral standing and view?

shit Louis Farakhan (spelling) was apart of the Civil rights movement too
are you going to tell me he is not a bigot (against jews)?

I dont know what exactly prop 8 is but if it has anything to do with gay marraige or gays rights to adoption then you should know that touches religion and moral issues and has nothing to do with race

I agree, neither is justified. I don't discourage dialogue and intelligent discussion; just hypocrisy and ignorance of material conditions.

EDIT:

Also, anyone who thinks that the gay rights struggle is comparable to the holocaust or what blacks and indigenous people have gone through in the united states needs a serious reality check.

well at least you aren't allowing stereotypes into the conversation ](*,)

First of all, this backhanded arrogance is transparent as hell. You're just looking to patronize and are fooling no one. That's first.

Second of all, 70% of Blacks did not vote in favor of Prop 8, you silly instigator, you. That figure has long since been debunked. Blacks only make up 6% of CA's electorate...so even if 100% of Blacks voted in favor of Prop 8, it would not have passed if White (you know the MAJORITY) support wasn't as strong as it was. I know that's gotta irk, huh? Must be why uppity gay (ooops, my badd...I mean "curious"...;) ) folks tend to gloss over that inconvenient truth.

Finally, to say that "all" Black folks should support gays, simply because they too face discrimination is patronizing, idealistic and shallow. Black folks are not OBLIGATED to support gays. No one is obligated to support anyone. Everyone picks their own battles and causes to champion. Wouldn't it be a perfect world if everyone who's ever been shitted on got together sang a chorus of "Hands Across America"? Yeah, that's a nice little Hallmark card. Unfortunately it's not reality. People don't relate to each other based on the number of scars they have because not all scars are the same or were inflicted the same way. They do it based on personal interests and goals.

I don't know about anyone else, but condescendingly expecting me to support anything is most likely gonna result in my resistance. It's pretentious and patronizing for someone else to declare or inquire what I should be doing. No motherfucker, you mind your own business and attend to your own shit. Don't tell me what to do.
