I border on the fanatical when it comes to correct spelling, punctuation and grammar in the posts that I make. On other people's posts I couldn't really give a rats, as long as I can understand what they're saying.
Nevertheless, I have been known to PM jubbers when they make spelling and/or grammatical/punctuation errors that severely detract from the meaning they're trying to convey. I can't help it ... I'm an English teacher! I do try to be polite about it, though, and I would never embarrass anyone with a public 'correction' post.
okay, so are we only talking about misspelling or grammatical errors? Or are we talking about both?
Misspelling..hmm.. never my case. If I am in doubt of spelling a word correctly, I'll check it up with a dictionary. Come on, all you need to do is open another window and type the word into a dictionary website. Why are we being so lazy, it's not like we have to pull out a dusty old book, flip the pages, and scroll down for it.
If we're talking about grammar then I'm guilty as charge. Hehehe, sometimes a person can see his grammtical errors and correct them right away, most of the time like me, you get so use to using wrong grammars while online (from reading other's writing) that you forget which is the correct way.
I would hate to be a teacher or a person whose profession mainly deals with correcting grammar. They take their job too personally and sometimes forget that we are not their students. I don't blame them though, even as Adults, we should always be open-minded and learn more.
If they really want to correct us, atleast show respect by sending a PM and not by shouting "shut the fuck up and go back to school!" so everyone else can start copying and follow the trend to embarrass the person. That's bad.![]()
I believe the word you meant to type, was it.
Turnabout. Fairplay. Synonymous. Same.

Just because it is polite to the people who are going to read you.
The least you can do is to try to make yourself understood.
I have doubts sometimes, reading the posts, that the people writing them know what they are talking about. Because there, their, they're are not at all the same thing. How can you confuse them, to name just but one.
English is not my native language, but I try very hard to speak and write it properly.
And it is not a hard language, try french or german !
It is only sloppiness when it is intended, just as some people present themselves unwashed and in dirty clothes.
Of course abusive corrections don't help, but you can't help having a chuckle now and again reading certain posts.![]()
look if the "spelling and grammatical atrocities " as you put it are not work related or for other people school/collage..why should they type correctly all the time......![]()
I usually do.
It is the lack of proper capitalization, improper possessives and shear laziness, like using 'wt' for 'what' that send me round the twist as I see the decline and fall of the English language all around us. Not only are many people too lazy to bother, they are increasingly proud of illiteracy. There is nothing more dangerous than an illiterate society.
I let 95% of the spelling and grammatical atrocities go by without comment on a bulletin board, but all our staff know that it is at their peril that they hand me anything with spelling errors in it.
Well, why not?
Surely just typing the same way all the time is easier than having to think about abbreviating what to "wt" every time you're not at work.
Why keep two completely different sets of rules in your head that you have to switch between? What if you're at home one day, working on a paper while you have JUB open in the background? Are you going to actively switch between the two typing languages you keep up in your brain every time you switch your active window between the paper and the internet message board?
Seems unnecessary to me - sorry.

^My bad - I didn't realise you were a filthy foreigner.
My comments are aimed at the people for whom English is a first language.

This coming from a filthy foreigner.......why would u do such a thing?....it's just a post ...i don't see any reason for it to be translated to a different language
He was kidding.
Personally, i have no sympathy for the ones that insist on not trying. It'd be like going to Japan and going out of my way to be a jerk by talking in engrish.
If english is your second(third, fourth, fifth...) language, its understandable that you make mistakes sometimes. But if you go out of your way to not try by typing in text speak and saying "oh, i'm on a forum, i'm going to do what i want to", then why should someone be moved to care about your posts or your feelings, ESPECIALLY if you're capable of typing in coherent english?
Thats all i'm saying.
