Why is alcohol advertising not banned ?

In my country, alcohol advertising is banned.. so is advertising of cigarettes... A very good choice..

So do serial killers.:p

But there are far more drunk drivers killing innocent people than there are serial killers killing innocent people.

Serial killers end up in prison so they can't kill again. Drunk drivers who run over people get their licenses back.

But it's nice that you can make such light of such a serious situation.

Personally, I don't think that advertising of any product should be illegal...

And here in the U.S. it is very confusing...

You can advertise beer on network TV but not liquor...

Doesn't make any sense to me...

:(:(:(

Cereal advertising should be banned. :p

If you already have an alcohol problem, seeing an advertisement for a product is not going to change your consumption habits. However, if you enjoy an occasional martini while out with friends, maybe you'll consider using my vodka instead of another brand.

QFT.

IMO: They should make it so you can't advertise it without saying the harmful affects it will have. Also make a law saying you can only have x amount of drinks per day. And can only sell x amount of alcohol to someone per day.

I think a warning would be great, but laws about amounts and such would step over the line.

Some may, but not all. I think if we weren't so car reliant in the states drunk driving wouldn't be as big of an issue.

Why should their advertising be banned when people can't take responsibility for themselves? Of course anything done in binges instead of moderation is bad for you. The problem is not just the alcohol, it's people refuse to take responsibility for themselves or their actions. The Alcohol doesn't help, but it's easy to lay the blame on it because people need to feel less guilty about it.

why should cigarette advertising be banned when people can't take responsibility for themselves ?

why don't they ban all these stupid ass ER ads that are on non-stop?
Also all the ads for prescription medications.
I don't want to see the ad anymore for the "snuggie" blanket or any more Geko ads.
... And this creepy woman trying to be a man called Lord Greso (sp?) pushing her shit on how to make a million in the foreclosure real estate market

I for one like the sweet smell of the liquor ads.

You can only do so much for someone before they have to take care of themselves. No Cigarette ads have not stopped people from smoking, not even the pricing of Cigarettes going up have stopped it. The warnings on the labels of Cigarettes don't persuade anyone at all, the price rising didn't stop anyone. Knowing the health risks don't stop people. People are either very naive or just don't care until they're in the Hospital bed.

I'm pretty sure the ads, pricing, and warnings have stopped a few people as evidenced by lower smoking rates.

Here's one example: http://www.businessweek.com/lifestyle/content/healthday/645915.html

there is No benefit of drinking alcohol
You should do some research before doing things like using bold print to emphasize an invalid point. I would do it for you, but I assume you know how to Google. There are plenty of reliable sources that indicate certain types of moderate alcohol consumption has it's benefits.

there is no benefit to breathing either.

after a vastly differing number of inhalations

you cease to exhale.

thus wasting precious air

and after killing time............

you die.

I don't mind the odd sip. But people who drink everytime they go out is kind of a turn off for me. It says to me, "I can't have fun without drinking. I'm totally incapable of dancing unless I'm drunk. And I need an excuse for my bad behaviour." Now, a drink or two every once in a while is cool.

I don't know? But you can't completely hold the substance accountable if the person has issues with said substance but continually uses them. I've known people who would get completely black out drunk on several occasions but didn't alter their drinking habits at all.

at present in Aust,
i believe less people smoke per capita compared to the cigarette advertising days.

If advertising doesn't work, why the alcohol industry spent so much money on Advertising ?

Also make a law saying you can only have x amount of drinks per day.

yep. and while you're at it, you definitely have to submit to random checks by law enforcement at any hour of the day - on the street, workplace, or home - to make sure you're abiding by the law.

are you for real?

Bullocks to the lot

I could go for a nice, cold one right now

Kev......would that be beer or ? and

would you like some hot Rocky mountain Oysters

or just some bar-be-screwed regular "oysters"?
