  • Hi Guest - Did you know?

Why is nobody talking about the new TRANSFORMERS Movie?!

I won't. For some time now I've been writing off any movie where "action-packed" is one of the descriptors.

Well, there's no Half naked Tramps so there has to be some "action" for the male-movie goers....There's a Love story there to and comedy...So there's a little something for everybodys taste..

i'm avoiding it for 2 reasons.

1. i never made it through the 1st one--worked GREAT as a sleep aid though.
2. these days i'm trying to avoid anything Shia related--that kid bugs the holy hell outta me.

I saw it today and I loved it. It is definitaly a movie to get your brains fried. But it is amazing!

Gonna see it again. That's for sure.

And, As many say: It's just a fucking movie. And a damn good just-a-fucking-movie :D

I have NO desire to see this movie - thought the first one was horrible. In fact I thought the making of the film on the dvd was better than the actual film. I read some reviews and many think the 2nd one is horrible.

The first film had a masturbation reference and some questionably negative portrayals of the two black male characters (the car salesman and the hacker). The second film. according to Harry at aintitcoolnews.com, has drug references, "dog fucking, cussing, racial stereotypes and more."

Digging only a little deeper on the web finds many critics taking it to task for all kinds of racial stereotypes and misogynistic treatments. Two of the robots mentioned in this thread are apparently the worst kind of minstrel characters.

This is what we're supposed to be eating up as a summer blockbuster young kids will want to go see?

I think I'll pass.

When the robots are obviously white, everyone's complaining there are no obviously black robots in the movie. When the robots are obviously black...

Never heard anyone complain that there were no "black" robots in the first one, but I've read several critics now who were offended by robots in this one being described as "Sambots" for the way they curse, are illiterate, have a gold tooth, and simian-like movements. With the list of other characters reportedly sprinkled throughout that rely on racial/religious stereotypes, it seems somewhat unlikely that this wasn't intentional. And again, this is a film that is not marketed just at adults, who might accept the stereotypes with the kind of wink-wink/nudge-nudge portrayals found on In Living Color or MadTV. This film is going to be highly attended by kids.

Don't you think children are smarter than that?

Sorry, I sort of expect more out of my movies in exchange for my $10 and two hours. I think some people are too quick to forgive any and all faults in films with the comment "It's just a movie". Call me weird, but I expect more from movies than things moving around on a screen for 100 minutes. Comedies should be funny, dramas should be engaging, action films should sweep you up. For those who shrug and say "it's an action film", I reference the first Indiana Jones films. The Empire Strikes Back. And especially The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Action films that were more than just occasional (or a lot of) action, but films in addition.

This might mean I hardly see any films. This year, I've seen Up, and that's it. That might be the last one I see this year. And I'm totally fine with that.

I'll most probably watch it. In times like this, I need to engage something (like this movie) where my brain is not needed. Pretty images, loud noises and bad acting -- kinda explains why I'm on JUB most of the time.

Ok Lex, I'll give you the Indiana Jones films, but Empire Strikes Back???? While it's one of my favorite movies ever, you can't utter the phrase good acting in reference to a movie starring Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. lol. But the original Star Wars Trilogy, like these Transformers movies, are great in spite of their faults.

Ever since The Sword of Rhiannon I've been a fan of Leigh Brackett (who produced the screenplay for The Empire Strikes Back). I enjoyed both of the recent Transformers movies, but the screenplays were simply not as good as the original Star Wars Trilogy.

Well, most of my friends have now seen it. And they were all "enh" about it. And they're all going back to see it again this weekend.

Pretty much what I thought.

Transformers has a script? Wo cares? Robots fight each other, and a ot of shit blows up. SOLD

I just watched the first one the other day, and there was a scene where John Tuturo and Jon Voight are hamming it up so hard I'm surprised Jews and Muslims are allowed to be in the theater. The two of them are literally just seeing how badly they can overact, and it works because acting is the last thing anyone cares about in these movies. I'm a big fan of good acting, but I also like boobs and explosions so I'll be seeing it tomorrow.

That movie was so fucking terrible. Sooooo awful. I thought it'd be amusing in that "ha ha it's a terrible action film with cool cgi" but it was even horrible for that. Don't go waste the ten bucks, glad someone else bought my ticket. The transformation scenes were garbage because the view was so fucking zoomed in on them you couldn't even tell what was going on, just a bunch of up-close CGI metal moving around and then voila it's a robot. They didn't even build up to the transformations either so it was just like HERE'S THE COOL SHIT in the beginning, and the rest of the movie was just pointless explosions and then megan fox's titties bouncing around in slow mo as she ran away from them.

It was pretty close to 3 hours of absolute nonsense. The CGI even got boring because it was the same shit over and over... THe whole movie had about 2 extra hours of pointless buildup to an extremely, EXTREMELY anticlimactic ending with a short-ass ending action scene that also sucked.

Ugh. lol.
