Why The Dems Lost..How I See It..

The main reason the Dems lost so many houses is because the greedy geezers were afraid of change. They were afraid that the Dems would interfere with their socialized medicine (i.e. medicare), that they voted in a crowd that is very much opposed to socialized medicine. The greedy geezers want socialized medicine for themselves, but not anyone else. Sad commentary on the post WWII generation.

^ that is an extreme subset of the votes against the failed current majority.

Reality is if they had some leadership they would have been trumpeting their message instead they were outdone....

Your right though the lazy kids who put them in office could have shown up and voted but guess what? they didnt......

That's economic ignorance talking.

India is at the point where they're going to be able to start buying from us -- a lot. And there are a lot more of them to buy things from us than of us to buy things from them. So Obama's over there working on friendship and a bunch of billions of dollars of stuff they'll buy from us.

Of course the next step is to get our manufacturing sector back -- those jobs that are a lot more than minimum, and actually turn out products that can be sent to places (like India) where people send money back. The U.S. has lost more than ten million manufacturing jobs since I finished school at OSU, which in the conservative side is over $200,000,000/hr in wages....

Further, if things go well with India, it will "tackle the enormous trade deficit with COMMUNIST China" -- because one big advantage of India is that it is for the most part an English-speaking market, where English-speaking people would rather do business..

My threads always seem to do a lot better when I stay the hell out of them..lol

I'll be the first to admit I'm far from being well versed in economic policy..But,I can't help but wonder what it is you think India will be buying from us?

While I'm not a finacial whiz, I do respect the opinion of people like Thom Hartman and I listen to him on the radio quite a bit.He was talking about this the other day and he brought up that while India is becoming more prosperous, they really aren't buying much from the U.S. except weapons and antiques..

Of course the U.S supplies much of the world with high powered weaponry, but is that what you think will turn the tide and bring back much needed production jobs? You say yourself, that our production capabilties are in trouble..

Keep thinking like this, please. It is thinking like this that will lead to the Democrats becoming the minority party they deserve to be. We are not now and have never been a far left nation. We aren't a far right nation either but tend to be a little bit right of center. Between now and 12 we will have ethics trials for both Rangel and Waters. I hope all their nasty corrupt deeds come back to haunt them. It would be nice to see both of them out.It is especially sweet to see Obama's old seat filled by a Republican. You kept the senate but enough of the races were super close that it could have easily turned the other way.

Yeah, that's what the country needs alright.Lot's of hyper partisan, republican led ethics probes into the affairs of black politicians..That should help get the point across that they really are a big inclusive tent.Plus, it should help address the real problems that are plaguing the country..

She came close to winning much more as a reflection of the ineptitude of Harry Reid and the pitiful state of Nevada rather than any T-Party idea. :)

That was a pretty horrific close call. But your point is well taken. It's real scary that people like her were even seriously considered for any office, much less came that close to winning..

I like a lot of Obama's initiatives.... too bad that who ever was Caesar for the last two years would have appeared to fiddle.

For those of you who doubt that obama has accomplished a single decent thing have a look >>> http://www.whatthefuckhasobamadonesofar.com/ :)

I'm not saying Obama didn't get anything done.He did.I just think he really squandered the opportunity to get more meaningful things done.I guess I keep screwing up by expecting him to be more of a progressive, left leaning executive. He has made it clear he's more of a right leaning, cautious leader.I guess that would be fine, but he's too damn eager to compromise.Especially with ultra conservative extremists out to destroy his presidency..

Much of what you posted originally was spot on. This country will never be a manufacturing state ever again unless we forgo being a wealthy powerful nation to produce rice and plastic goods for China.... Which is ridiculous as China will implode over the next 20 with socio-economic issues that will make our look like a video game.

The democrats lost because the swing vote feels the way you do in some ways. Remember when i said it is a good thing Obama won because whomever is President will be crushed over the next few years....

Anyways.... these are things i think at the poker table in my living room.... if you can type all you did at a red light then ya'll need quicker lights.... :)

I like to think most of what I say is spot on..(wink) but,the confused looks I get from people hint that maybe that isn't the case...

When you say that China will implode in the next 20 years, what do you mean there Johnboy? Is it because the people willcast off the Communist rule, or that the country won't be able to support the billions of people?

They seem to have no problem keeping their people busy, and they sure seem to save a lot of their incomes? Do you think there will be labor revolts there, that workers will start demanding better wages and working conditions on a massive scale? Is that what you mean?

The country's rulers seem very willing to accomodate the capitalists. They are taking care of a lot of the countries social ills. They transformed the country from peasant farmers to the worlds industrial leader..Will they crush any labor movements to see that doesn't change?

I read a great book on China's industrial rise..''China Inc..'' It described huge cities that essentially didn't exist 35 years ago. They were rice paddies. Now they are home to millions of people, complete with highways, trains, hospitals, etc and factories out the ass.

The manufacturing set up is incredible. They have whole towns that specialize in the manufacturing of zippers, boots, door knobs, plastic bowls .etc..They have the largest transient population in the world.People are leaving the farms by the millions and working in these factories.Money is pouring in from everywhere..

"Why The Dems Lost", is easy.... they didn't go far enough. They kept trying to negotiate with Republipukes, which is a losing hand. "The Dems" should have crammed down the most liberal / progressive agenda down Republipukes throats using every legislative trick in the book and they would have handily won reelection. Nearly 1/2 the people unhappy with the Health Care Reform package didn't think it went FAR ENOUGH! Why Dems are so damned timid in using every tactic in the book is beyond me. If it was a wingnut Congress (like the 2011 & 2012 will be) they will be cramming nonsense thru the meat-law grinder nonstop.
That's what upset me most of all. They had some good ideas, and they talk a good game. But when it comes time to fighting for them, they are so damned quick to run away with their tails btween their legs..

Right now, much of what they might buy was covered by Obama. That's why I said we need to get our manufacturing capacity back: they're at the point where there will be a lot of income for consumer goods, and if we're not making them, we won't be selling them.

Kenny I am slow on proof which used to be the dying mantra for discussion around these parts BUT I have read several pieces on the social situation in China. I also read many things in the conduct of my job. China has built amazing manufacturing mega cities but they have also spent time building infrastructure for future use. In that there are literally highways that go no where. While this looks quite promising as a future and they will no doubt continue to grow, it is unsustainable. The worlds economy is killing off their customers and their own citizens need to be developed into consumers.

Additionally in a country where there are no support systems developed for the elderly and as you add in the one child situation, you end up with a huge unsustainable adult population that will be resting on the backs of less and less people.

Finally, they are strangely reliant upon the outside world for intelligent injects. They copy everything and very few original ideas are developed inside their borders. they are making money hand over foot while continuing to receive developing country money from the west. As hey increase their strength and industrial girth they will lose that free cash.

So yes it is a workers paradise but if your treated like a commodity I sincerely doubt that is a happy existence.

I suppose we will see....
