Windows 10? Are you going to do it?

I never use add-ons and whatnot. How does it hurt for you to try it? You know, it's NOT a prerequisite to use Edge for you to uninstall firefox. Why not try it and see if you like it or not? Keep firefox.

Oh sure I will try it out. I use IE for a few things now. I'm just saying Edge probably won't become my primary browser if I don't have the add-on functionality that I've come to depend on with Firefox...like Download Helper for one.

Here is the link to my onedrive for the ISO of windows 10 RTM x64. This is the exact same one that will be released to the general public at the end of this month.

Just mount, double click on setup, and let the process work... assuming you already have a valid windows license. I have no idea what happens if you do not have a valid license.

It really is a great OS. You should give it a chance.

Also, the windows team is on top of things it seems. I just got an update, and it's not officially released yet.

Thanks man. I'll download it and give it a try.

No. I made the mistake of buying a laptop that had one the first versions of Vista. I learned the hard way that Microsoft products time for all the bugs to become known and fixed.

Yeah, I agree. We always get these great reviews from the beta testers and then, when real people start to use it, all the bugs (and there are ALWAYS loads) surface
Look at XP. Most people would say it was good for its time but even now, as they abandon it, there are STILL bugs being found. Someof them really big important securioty risks.

There is no such thing as a bug free software. As a developer, I often find that normal people, or mortals, have a lot of trouble understanding this.

And there, my friend, is my point. It isn't ready for general use if they have had to issue an update before it has been released

This is also one of the most misconceptions among the normals. The updates I got were security updates. If you want to use a product that only gets an update once in a blue moon, be my guest. In this dynamic world, there is no such thing as too many updates.

Just to add this point. Vista was so bad, that the real questions was: Why was it released in the first place? There's no way Microsoft didn't know of the problems. The problems were evident as soon as you turned on your computer and tried to use it.

When they finally fixed it. That is made it as close to Windows 7 as they could get it, it works fine. I still use that laptop, I'm typing on it now.

Same reason that Apple released a version of their gps map that led people into deserts and rivers. It's a combination of overly ambitious project deadlines and group think.

I once came upon a problem in my code. I gave myself a deadline that was in 2 weeks to solve the problem. It didn't look like that hard of a problem to solve. Well, it eventually took me 3 months to solve, and I was really immersed in it.

Any dedicated developer would tell you that project deadlines aren't really that useful because it's simply impossible to know when people can come up with adequate solutions for such and such problems. Unfortunately, that's not how corporations work. Corporate heads always think if they set a deadline then it can be somehow magically met. Combine that with group think and voila you have a mega corporation releasing a half-assed product.

So why couldn't this happen with Windows 10?

So why couldn't this happen with Windows 10?

It totally could. That's why there are people like me getting the rtm early this time around.

I didn't say deadlines are always not properly met. I said it could.

The vista fiasco happened because they were too ambitious. They created an entirely new system from scratch without seeking advice from the developer community at large.

10 is different in that it was built on top of the source codes of 7 and 8. And MS have been very responsive to developer feedback.

You're falling into the trap of absolutes. You think new releases are either always good or always bad.

I've been following 10 very closely because I have a vested interest in it. Trust me, it's good. This release will be successful. They've done a wonderful job at stamping out bugs. What is even more impressive is it takes 5 minutes to revert back to the old system after the update. I tested this with my atom machine and it took 5 minutes to have 8.1 back.

Okay basing my decision on your comments and presuming I can trust the verity of them I will book my update.

Good choice. Just remember that you can revert back any time. If you end up not liking it, just revert back to what you have now.

You are exactly right.
I'm an old-school developer. I wrote assembly language on IBM big-iron mainframe systems along with COBOL for 35 years. It used be when you developed a system you met with the users for weeks to understand the business process and you worked to meet their needs. You planned forward and set realistic target dates based on appropriate coding and testing time. There were always problems but you had a good functional product at the end. Then something went totally wonky. Now days the management heads set some fantasy deadline usually based on what makes them look good. Then we have to plan backward from the deadline in order to meet it. The result is coding shortcuts, a lot of bugs, inadequate testing and often a big mess. But hey, we met the deadline, that's all that's important now. As long as it sort of works they get their big bonuses. I can't wait to retire.

The best example of this is healthcare.gov. I was not involved at all but I guarantee that's exactly what happen. They did not build a system, they simply met a deadline.

So is it safe to assume that this photo means it does indeed include Windows Media Player still? How did you find this information since Windows 10 isn't available until the 29th of this month supposedly? Will the transition delete my documents and music stored on the previous Windows?

I updated to Windows 10 and things seem to be working well.
