lol i think your one of the few people who dislike Windows 7.

I personally love it, ever since the beta. Probably because mine came with zero crapware.

What's wrong with your computer though?

i use Win7 ... and i like it ... no problems .... yet

Did you do the M$ Windows 7 hardware advisor before you installed 7?
When you say "old" I'm wondering how old.......
XP here too......but I paid for 2 licenses so I'll use XP to the last gasp.

Both of my computers would handle 7 but I have some hardware that might not make the cut.......

That said.......of EVERYONE I know who has 7.......ALL of them love it.

We got new POS (Point of Sale) terminals at the Retail Emporium this past week. Total of 45 brand-spanking new machines throughout the store.

Everyone (the tech types) said they were all tested and ready to go.

When I saw the Windows logo on the screen when one was powered on I told myself this wasn't going to go well.

Tally after four days of use: six are nothing more than doorstops; six more need significant coaxing to work (i.e., restarts every 20 minutes or so) and many more report glitches (the one I used most of the time yesterday froze up no less than four times during an 8 hour shift and had to be unplugged to get it to unfreeze twice).

Edit: I did the math. Roughly 25% of the new Windows machines are utterly useless; 25% require some sort of internal software fix, and another 25% have operational errors...it is the same software on each machine. That leaves only one in four machines that perform properly.

It took a year of updates to get the bugs outta Vista.

I'm not switching anytime soon. Unless for some reason I have to purchase a new pc and then it will come with 7. :(

lol I think the one that restarts every 20 minutes is still on the beta version. You got screwed over on that deal.

Oh God, NOOOOOOO!

I would suggest calling your local Best Buy for a new computer STAT!

Oh, you edited your post.

If there were a Target around here, and if I had the money to buy a new computer, I might consider it.

My favorite error message from the last few days:

'Windows has performed an illegal operation and will shut down.'

Then to a black screen.

Win 7 Pro and I absolutely love it. Vista sucked but I have to say MS hit a home run with 7.

It comes with a virtualized XP mode that I use to logon to work because the necessary VPN software won't run in 64 bit mode. Very nice feature.

Vista scared me for life - not enough to buy a mac(i have other concerns), but enough to make me not trust any current upgrades.
Yeah, but Microsoft decided to let the public test it a full year before its official reliease for free. I think more people tested the Windows 7 beta than own a Mac.

It is safe to upgrade. But I would make sure it is a proper computer.

windows is unable to fix this error, if you have downloaded a camera or music player, delete it and try again.

I can't get into computer to delete anything. :grrr:

When it says Delete It, this is how to do it.

Would you believe Windows 98SE?

Contact the Peterborough Linux Users Group and tell them you are willing to switch to Linux if they can find an old computer for you that no one is using any more. They've got plenty of such machines that are old but still much more powerful than what you've got. And trust me, they would love to find someone like you to give them to, gsdx.

They will help you and will install Linux on it for you. They will coach you through whatever problems you may have.

And we're always standing by in the Tech Talk forum for any questions or problems as well.

my XP works fine - and I wouldn't get anything with the word "MAC" in it - unless it had a BIG in front of it - or was the prefix of a last name of a hottie in a kilt ......

Raven:

I wouldn't be so quick to blame Windows 7 it is stable. I've beaten the hell out of it with the beta's and the RC's. Only had a few problems with the beta's and NONE with anything from RC to release. Its more likely something that came preloaded from the manufacture or some update that came down for the hardware. Unless of course you installed a badly written program. LOL If I were you I'd be more interested in finding out what went wrong to prevent it. Or you could always switch to linux (as long as their is support for your hardware).

GSDX:
Holy Shit!!! Win98SE???? Are you serious??? I'd rather switch to linux then deal with that ancient crap.

Yooper:
While I'm certainly not a fan of seeing windows on a POS, the fault is with the manufacture who setup the machines. They should have been tested at the factory, including both windows and POS. I'd blame them first this time before MS.

Both Vista & WinME are the worst pieces of software I think to ever come out of MS. Now to Microsoft's credit, they program to work on a WIDE range of hardware, where as that wonderful company called APPLE codes to work on a very NARROW range of hardware. They also much much more frequently cut off older hardware.

I'm thinking it's something to do with something I've downloaded like utorrent or something. The last time this happened I'd downloaded Limewire, this time I downloaded utorrent and it's done the same thing.

I wonder if its more something you downloaded with those programs, rather then the programs themselves. utorrent is widely used, and as far as Limewire I haven't heard anything good about it. You could always try bitlord, but you most definitely need to scan anything you download from there with antivirus scanner.
