So, who is going to download RC1 of Windows 7 tomorrow? My partner and I are both planning on downloading it. He is just going to do a fresh install over Vista (We are both on Vista) And I'll probably install it on my second hard drive. But I'll probably see how it runs on his computer before I install it on mine. I just hope it runs my games.

One thing to keep in mind before you make any changes, on March 1, 2010 the RC will begin shutting down every two hours. You'll be warned a couple of weeks ahead of time, but unless you purchase a license before then your OS will become harrassmentware.

I was thinking of upgrading but my home PC is XP and I just don't wanna hassle with a fresh install since everything is working fine as is. I put the beta on my Vista laptop and LOVED it. The startup / shutdown was, easily, 75% faster on W7.

I've been using the BETA for quite a while now. It's easily my favorite OS I've ever used.

Oh, I've reformatted my hard drive many many times. I know all about back ups. Hugh and I are both computer geeks. Anyway, we installed 7, he on his main drive, and I on my second drive. It is FUCKING AWESOME! When I boot up the PC, it loads up so fast compared to Vista, and all my programs are really fast as well. I just love it. :)

The rumor for the final release is September or October. But this is Microsoft, so take any rumors concerning them with a grain of salt. :)

I've never had any problems with Vista either. But it's clunky compared to Windows 7. I still have Vista on my main drive, but I probably wont use it much.

Been running Windows7 at work for months now. Had to hack some proprietary software to get it to install and run, but once that was done everything works like a charm.

I'll be installing RC1 this week.

I may *gasp* actually buy a M$ product. But don't hold me to that =]

Installed it on my old laptop without any hassle at all. Haven't spent much time using it yet, but I like what I see so far.

I will probably install it on a paritition on my main PC if I continue to like it.

Installed it in VM last night just to see.

Wiped the box today at work and installed RC1 just as fast as the beta. I still can't believe how fast it installed compared to every other MS OS install. Well, except DOS.

So far, so good.

WOW< this all sounds pretty good. Is it possible that Microsoft busted their butt on this project? I haven't tried it out yet, so can't say for myself. I upgraded to Vista, it worked ok at first, and then start to act clunky and had a few other annoyances and now back on XP.

i had trouble with beta barely running on my machine, it's just too old i think. or at least it's too old to be trying to run windows 7 on it in VMware. i would try it though if i had a more powerful machine.

Installed the 64 bit version on my main PC (laptop was 32bit version). I still like what I see. My main annoyance is lack of flash support for IE8 64bit, but you can still use the 32bit browser so it's no biggy.

Overall install and setup was a breeze. Very quick to install as mentioned previously. Found my home network easily and connected without any problems. Windows update automatically found new drivers for some of my hardware including the graphics card.

AVG free, despite being advertised as Win7 compatible is not recognised as working correctly by Windows, although the program itself reports that it's working fine. I assume this is more of an annoyance than an issue, asWindows keeps popping up to tell me AVG is not functioning. There are other AV options that are compatible, so will probably try one of these.

Haven't installed much else yet, so will see how it goes.

I've been running Vista Home Premium 64-bit without a hitch for a while now...so I see no reason to. In any case, it's not the final version, so I wouldn't give it a try anyway. I don't think I'll upgrade either since it's more expensive then I'd hoped and nothing is wrong with Vista. I've heard good things about Windows 7, though.
Sigh, Win7 probably won't be much different in price from Vista, hell it might be cheaper. And I suspect they might give a discount to beta testers.

Anyway, I love Vista, never had a problem, but compared to Windows 7, it i absolutely amazing, it was a finished product in beta 1, and it is only better in the Release Candidate which is essentially a finished product waiting to be released.

They developed it a different way than they usually do. Instead of releasing stuff half finished, they didn't release anything until it was completely done. Thats why at beta 1 (build 7000) it felt complete and ready to release.

This is a good thing, because it gives people enough time to develop for Windows 7 even though they don't really have to, it is Vista cleaned up and done right.

It's cute watching the WIndows-folks drooling over functonality that OS X has had for years.

And yes, Windows 7 is till Windows with it's DLL-hell, Register-sodomy, bloated crap system, usability for monkeys and still no Unix.
NO _FUCKING_ UNIX, no scp, no ssh, no curl...nothing.

And .NET is for fags.

Also the new "show desktop" sucks ass, WHO THE FUCK thought of the "functionality" of when mouseovering the button, to SHOW the desktop.
How does that help, when do you want to see your desktop but not do anything?

Sorry for the ranting, I just suffer from windows-nausia after doing some projects with .NET and the bloatware VS.

Unix is for people too lazy to write their own Operating System, like Apple is.

Windows 7 isn't bloated at all. Of course as an Apple fag, you wouldn't know that. They have taken out a lot of legacy code and in turn allow people (cause you know most people use and will always use windows)who need the legacy code to just use a virtual machine with XP mode.

Maybe when Apple writes their own OS from scratch you can say that. The iPod doesn't count, and all the iPhone is Unix, sorry OS X, put into the phone.
